Stelvio is beautiful but Strummer is right about the need to do it at the crack of dawn. Much later than breakfast and the NL camper trailers slow things to a crawl.

Norway on the other hand has stupendous passes that are not so heavily traveled and should be on the bucket list for any motorcyclist!

Haha! On behalf of the the bunch of us that hate those crawlers too, I apologize.
And you are right about Norway, hoping to visit there on the bike once.

That would be a three-way-up-and-back road for me:
1) Sighting
2) Blat
3) Blat
Looks so, so inviting...

I joined another rider the other day for a little tour of San Diego county. He was on a '21 Goldwing.
It was an unseasonably hot day and I was a bit wiped by the end, but still a great ride.

Some of the folks I ride with lately use the relive app to document the rides. Kinda neat.

Back when I was stationed in San Diego, I rode some of those same roads. Loved up around Julian, and Borrego Springs. I was amazed at the fantastic condition of the roads, compared to the crappy Texas chip seals.

When it's in good shape, it's not too bad. But, in our heat, it doesn't last, and becomes uneven. Also gets quite noisy. They've started asphalting the curves, and leaving the chip seal on the straights. Which is good, 'cuz that's were it was really bad for bikes. But, even brand new, it doesn't have the traction that asphalt has, but it doesn't have the cost either.

I'm in the same boat here. Triple digit temps seem to reduce the life of BST. It's fine in low traffic rural areas but if the road sees any significant use or experiences any major temp swings it just doesn't last. I'm all for it on a personal driveway but I have come across too many that have become uneven and will jar your kidneys to death while riding them. I guess it depends a lot on where it's used.

That's the Quest Kodiak. They are built a few miles north if here. We used to make parts for them until they bought their own machine and brought that capability in house.

We are getting more and more corporate jet traffic here...

This is a fire fighting aircraft. We have a refueling station and a resupply station here for them. Fire season has just started, but will assuredly worsen as our drought continues. I've seen as many as 3 of these aircraft and 5 helicopters at this area of the airport. It's cool to see the big copters with the giant bucket that they lower into one of the lakes around here...20210713_051517.jpg

What is the first (prop) plane used for? The high wing made me think parachute, but the belly looks like it's a fire fighter too?

Heading to Wales tomorrow for a few days. Backroads to thee Stratford, Worcester, Leominster and mid Wales. The next day, the Elan Valley, Devils Bridge, the red kites near Aberystwyth, follow some of the coast for a while before Snowdonia, finally up near Conway for a couple of nights with some friends. Will travel home through as much of Wales as possible.

I know those Welsh roads are a chore;), but needs must. Will try and post some pics.
