So my son and I had plans for a ride today, but his morning didn't cooperate and he couldn't go. So I sat at home and read for a couple hours, then rode to the National Forest that I an fortunate enough to live 10 minutes from. Our weather has been super windy and rainy lately, and lots of trees were down, the first few miles into the forest the roads were filled with folks gathering firewood. After that I sorta had the place to myself. Hard to choose which pics to post, I like them all!!!

Fun fact: beginning last Veteran's Day-2020, Gold Star Families, and veterans get free admission to all national parks, wildlife refuges, and other federal lands managed by the Department of the Interior.

Texas, and likely all other states, allows you to get your veteran status imprinted on your driver's license (DL). Just show your DD-214 where you renew your DL. That way when you go to Home Depot, you show them your DL, and get a 10% discount too. Lowes has a similar program, but it's a little more complicated.

Is this permanent? Just got my new Real ID with veteran status. My wife "owns" our National Parks Pass we got a few years ago.

"Free access for veterans and Gold Star Families will continue indefinitely, unless the Secretarial Order and/or FLREA are amended, superseded, or revoked/expired." So, yes. . . . sort of. . . . until someone changes their mind. Fingers crossed they don't.

NW Illinois hill country, lots of nice hilly gravel. On to Mississippi Palisades State Park. Some of the gravel had tons of moths on something on the road. They would fly up behind me in my wake. I've never seen that before. They had some recent rain.

I was just out in Illinois visiting family near Freeport. No terrain like what you rode over there though. Also didn’t get to bring bike the bike with.

Rode up the Hampster this past weekend. I did the segment up to Littleton NH alone as no one ever responded to my invitation, but I happened to meet a group of riders in Littleton and therefore felt comfortable to continue heading north the next day. We made it probably 20 miles north of Errol NH in terms of distance traveled before we determined that the road was not passable anymore, and turned back. The other riders in the group were on: a Yamaha XT250, a Yamaha WR250R, a Husqvarna 700, and a BMW GS1250. Part of the ride took us through a big ATV park in Dummer, NH, and only myself and the Husqy stayed upright the whole way. Pics from the second day are forthcoming since I have to obtain them through frame grabs from the video I shot, but here are some shots from my solo first half of the Hampster:

I still have a numb spot on my backside from this trip, hope that fades soon. And that was with the Sargent seat. I'd hate to think of how I'd feel had I still been using the stock seat.

Met a couple of friends at a get together at Kamiah, Idaho. The area seems made for a motorcycle, if you like twisty, curvey, roads that follow rivers and are lined with pine trees, you would love it here.
Met a lot of great people on all kinds of ADV bikes. There was a lot of BMW riders headed to the annual get together. Sounds like a great event I wish I could have
attended this year.
1389 miles for this quick trip.
Elk city, Lolo pass/hwy. really bike friendly area. 977133EC-D796-4670-9149-37D1619CD5C5.jpegB23A2934-8876-4E1C-A9E0-4BBA04183BC1.jpeg9187640E-6736-44DB-A3B2-9E4BB969B4E6.jpeg0FB8CC70-DE9A-4192-809D-D03EF499E876.jpeg6A2632CE-1F23-4FDD-AE16-55FFDA904C10.jpeg38667383-C990-41C5-B542-1269C999BE93.jpeg3B79459C-44D3-440F-8165-A58B0C4DB900.jpeg
