Still trying to decide on a plate that protects oil filter and bottom from rocks ect.. Mostly road riding but some gravel roads, fire trails. Made trip up the haul road Top of the world that kind of off road. Motec looks good and Givi but I can find no reviews on the Givi plate. Most of my bikes I ran a Fenda Extenda but seems not recommended for S-10. Any opinions welcome Thanks

I have the Givi. Good plate for the money. Easy install, good solid mounting/brackets & good clearance. It is required to drop plate in front to replace stock length oil filter (not that big of a deal). Friend got same one and had it black textured powder coated and looks great.

im running the yamaha skid plate with a finder extenda with no problems it probably has the most ground clearance but does mount to the oil pan if you are only doing gravel and fire roads it works good. i would like to find something that doesn't bolt to the oil pan but haven't found anything that works with the fender extenda and the yamaha engine guard .

I really like how Altrider mounts at the rear with a sturdy cross member. From my experience that is where most of the "serious" impacts occur.

I prefer how Hepco Becker mounted the front running through those 2 very strong bosses in the engine. Altrider only used 1 of them and has a bit punier mount on the right side.

Still, to this day, I don't think there is a single "perfect" skid plate for the S10.

+2 for the Altrider. The Yamaha unit (which I have) is fine for the kind of stone deflection you are talking about, but not at all so if you ever plan on bouncing over rocks off road.

The SW one is well made and looks good, gives good coverage and for protection from small tyre fire flinging up will be fine. Fitting is easy enough if a little time consuming.

I think most options out there are similar with just a couple of properly tough units for hardcore folk who like to park their sumps on tops of boulders.

What skid plates will clear the k&n filter? We have no yamaha shop so I buy my filters from the bmw triumph and ducati shop. Really like the look of the yamaha skid plate. I am thinking about getting it and modifying it to not bold to the oil pan.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond really appreciate your opinions and recommendations. Researching as much as I can to farkel this bike decided on crash guards and windshield. The seat was not good, thread on getting rid of the tilt is great. Sandpaper seat cover is a killer. Love this site!
