My Oxford heated grips turned up today, so I've placed them carefully on the pillion seat of the S10. No idea when they'll get fitted...

Today I removed the battery, and the weekend I plan to pull plastic, seat, tank and start the detailed fine cleaning and lubrication. ::008::

Technically, I didn't do anything but play nurse to Dr. Combo.
He would say "hold this", and I would hold that.

The end result was a fresh Big Block on the back, and the 2014 clutch basket with the Barnett pressure plate.
Bruce (Combo) made it look easy. And I never broke a sweat in my support role. 8)

Rode home back to Alvin. Ok Ok, I now see what the fuss is all about. That's quite an improvement in refinement of this Big Box Of Rocks twin. On mine, with just short of 40,000 miles, it's pretty dramatic. In neutral, it was even noticeable, but it's intoxicating coming off the bottom. Whole different feeling. Love it.

This bike is still amazing to me. 3+ years of riding it and it just never fails to hit the passion button.

Great pics. Pretty sure we saw you pass by on 52 as we were turning into the apple house...

Installed 2014 Clutch basket, CCT and flushed brakes and clutch.

After 3 years and 29K miles I figured it was finally time to start doing a little maintenance.

I changed the plugs and installed a fresh air filter. All-told about a 3 1/2 hour job, stopping to clean and wipe down as I proceeded. Getting the coil packs off the plugs was a bear...you don't have much room to grab on to them and get leverage. Plugs are relatively easy to get to.
One question....the most time-consuming chore was reconnecting the breather hose to the bottom of the air box. I swapped out the OEM clamp for a screw-type, as I could at least get the hose onto the breather tube, then work the clamp up the hose and tighten it. Does anyone have a decent method for doing this? It took me 45 minutes of struggling, cursing and generally not enjoying life.

Thanks is this a component that is failing on folks or wearing out with high miles?

One tip I can give you is I took the hose off at the crankcase end and installed the air box end first. Then I reconnected the crankcase end. Not as much of a PITA.

It is a component that is failing on some pre-2014 Super Tens. Typically, you will hear some clicking on cold start-ups, which may go away after a little bit. The new tensioner has been redesigned for 2014, although some owners are replacing the factory CCT with a manually adjustable CCT. I had mine replaced at about 17000 kilometres with the 2014 factory tensioner (covered by my extended warranty.) So far, so good.

Cheers,

Bruce

CCT replacement not necessary until you start to hear a little clacking for a few seconds on start up. You usually have a lot of miles on your bike before this starts happening. In my case 40,000 miles. However I ended up trading for a new 2014 before I got around to replacing the CCT. If you don't hear it, don't worry about it.
