It's not so much an "issue", but rather an annoyance....if you're sensitive to that sort of thing. I've talked to some people that don't even notice it. Of the four pre-14s I've ridden...all did the same thing.

I got all of the new/old shims back in, and rechecked all the clearances. Luckily my math was right! :D

Then I started putting the new basket in, but I need to measure my plate thicknesses while they're out before complete reassembly. I'm sure they're fine, but might as well check. The revised basket fits just like it should.

Got in a 453 mile ride today. Figured out ( maybe) that standing up isn't the way to cross a moss covered low water crossing. My engine guard and crash bars probably paid for themselves . No damage to the bike and only one witness, so pride is not scuffed up to bad...:)

Replaced the TPS. The engine was getting jumpy at lower throttle openings, primarily during decel, when throttle plates would close then recover before the twist grip was completley closed out. There was also a stumble while opening the throttle. I could make the problem go away for awhile by exercising the plates from stop to stop (thereby clearing a contact path in the TPS) by hand, but the problem started occuring more frequently. She's smooth as butta now!

Yet again discovered how awesome the bike really is. I have been off of it for a week, and in my mind, I KNOW it's great, but I often forget just how great it is. Every time that I get off of the bike, I am so pleased with it. No matter what I throw at it, the bike does it without complaint, and with ease.

I browse this and other forums, and occasionally someone will come in and say that they Super Tenere lacks x, y, or z, or that it doesn't sell well, and they are wondering why? Granted, there is no perfect bike, and the Super Tenere could do a few things better. But to not buy it because of a particular perceived shortcoming? I don't get personally understand it, because in my eyes, it is a fantastic all around bike, and I don't see anything about it that would cause me to not buy it again, if I had to make the decision over.

The big issue that I see about the Super Tenere, and I noticed it right away on my test ride, is that the bike grows on you, and gets its personality with the more miles that it has. Simply taking this bike out on a ten mile ride doesn't adequately show the true colors of the bike. As a matter of fact, after my test ride, I was quite underwhelmed, and rode away not wanting the bike. But for some reason, I went out on a whim, and decided to buy one, even though I wasn't entirely sold on it. Sure am glad that I decided to give it a chance!

Took my buddy out for a 45mile mild ADV loop that only had a few sections of easy gravel. We took turns riding my Tenere and WRR. He used to have a KLR years ago but has been off bikes for 5-6 years. He was blown away by just how nimble and sporty the Tenere was while still being able to flatfoot for a shorter guy. I am hoping I might have him reeled in soon as there is a 2012 blue Tenere for sale in the used section a the local Yamaha dealer.

Just ordered a replacement battery for my stock unit. It finally crapped out which isn't bad since it was from 2011.

Rode a 500 mile day trip from Richmond to the Baybridge Tunnels and had lunch on the VA Eastern Shore.

I've seen some clutch baskets being changed on this site. Are they going bad or is this a upgrade?

It's just an upgrade. Over time and miles some Super Teneres develop a vibration around 3000-3200 rpms that can be annoying and buzzy for some. I started getting that around 60k, (at least bad enough that I noticed), and with the availability of the '14 clutch basket, and a pricing error that allowed it to be ordered for very low cost, I jumped on the bandwagon and did it. Some people are more sensitive to the vibes, some bikes present with that issue sooner than others.

If you're not noticing it, it still should make the bike smoother with the new style clutch, but it's your call on if it's worth doing before you feel like it's an issue, for you.

Made up a dash shelf using a piece of melamine that I've had laying around for 20 years. Initially made it from AL but the piece I had was too thin so it flexed quite a bit. The melamine is much stronger.

Currently it's home to a constant hot 12V outlet.

how did you attact the shelf on the right side? I have some scrap pieces of alu and a plasma cutter .
