Welcome and happy hunting for your Super Tenere! It's a great bike! + 1 for the ECU flash with one caveat; I'd get some decent seat time before making the mod. I got mine done after many miles and a few tours. I could always flash back to stock if need be. Zero regrets but to each their own.

I'd definitely get a 2nd gen and up as they have cruise control. I feel that's essential for this kind of bike.

As for prices, you can most likely find one with way lower mileage for not much more. Even (possibly) if it means shipping it. I paid $9,500 OTD for my 2016 ES model with less than 2,000 miles on it. I live in San Antonio TX but bought it in Utah. Even with shipping it from UT to TX via Haul Bikes (about $550 at the time) it was still cheaper than my local options. The used Super Teneres in my area had way more miles and were priced $2-3k higher (!) As an average Joe wrencher, I also appreciated being able to carry out my own due diligence with maintenance because of the young life of the bike. Especially considering I'd be eating up some serious miles. Lol!

Here's an example (link below) of a decent used deal on FB Marketplace in the San Antonio area. Best of luck to you! :)

I found a 2014 with 66,464 Miles on it for $6,599 at a dealer.
What accessories are on the 2014 ? Miles are getting up there, lots of much lower miles Tenere’s out there if you have time to wait and look. 2014 and newer will have cruise control which was the main reason I traded in my 2013. If you plan to ride at night the stock Tenere headlights are crap and will need to be upgraded. I have the stock Yamaha luggage it’s ok but there’s lots of better stuff out there. Upgraded to TRex crashbars and skid plate and am very happy with the system, install was pretty easy, they come with pretty decent install instructions.

Is the 2014 an ES or Standard? If it is an ES with accessories, that price wouldn't be bad in my mind. You can always negotiate but need more info on what the bike has. It may be that someone got a newer one and pulled all the extras for their new ride. At some point (2017 or 2018?) they may have gone to ES only. ES gets you Heated Grips along with the electronic adjustable suspension. Ask for the maintenance history. With those miles it should have had 2 valve checks, and may be due for one. A valve check with adjustment can cost upwards of $1000 at a dealer. Part of the negotiation.

I think I’m going to look for a 2017 or newer. Thanks for the input if you see anything out there send me the link I don’t have Facebook so if it’s market place I won’t be able to see it .
I don't have FB either. I believe the Marketplace content is public access; no account needed to view. If I saw a crazy deal though, I might be tempted to create a temp account. Lol!! If you don't mind, let me know where you're at (area of state) and I'll be more than happy to send a link for a deal your should I see one. Again, best of luck! :)

What’s the difference in the trim level I found a 2021 XTZ12EMB
To my knowledge, a year or so ago, all new-for sale Super Tenere models were being manufactured as ES by default. So, electronically adjustable suspension, cruise and heated grips are standard. There are no other trim (up or down) options (stateside) that I'm aware of.

Brand new MSRP is $16,300 so it seems they're trying to capitalize on the add-ons (?) Imho, ehhh, it's still so close to brand new pricing that I'd still be hunting. I get that it's a seller's market, but still. OR, I'd deduct the cost of the add-ons and counter with that. All those add-ons are probably about $2,000. Idk what your budget and timeline is like but believe me; there are some STEAL of a deals out there. Someone beat me to my first dream pick in NJ; I waited a week and at 2:00 a.m. (!) found a better bike for cheaper. It was on Cycle Trader from a dealership. My bike had under 2k miles ($9500 OTD). After I added my sides cases and top box, my total was approx. $10,800 (If I include shipping it from UT, that takes the total to about $11,400). More money freed up for ADVentures ;) Respectfully, just my thoughts. You're gonna be one happy owner either way! :)

Thanks any input on if they are going to mak a new gen soon
Yamaha is notorious for not releasing data on new bikes. You won't find out about '23 bikes until December of '22. So, there's that. MY opinion is that if there is a "next gen" Tenere, it's not going to look much like the current one. The motor will have to change to meet EURO 5. Change the motor, and a lot of other stuff will have to change. Maybe even the final drive. Will it be better? Probably, Yamaha doesn't usually go backwards. Will it cost more? Absolutely, nothing new is cheaper. Is it worth wait? Not in my book.

Yes, that '21 you're looking at is priced almost new. It's because it is almost new. That mileage isn't even at the "real" break-in mileage yet. But, with the bags, crash bar, skid plate, tank bag, and YES warranty? You're not getting screwed. I.M.H.O.

Happy to help. I'm not aware of any rumblings about a gen 3 Super Tenere. I feel that with all the home runs that Yamaha's been hitting out the park, they would've done something already. Instead, with recent ADV offerings, they made another smart move and introduced the Tenere 700. It seems the mid to super mid weight ADV segment is still pretty hot. Maybe more so than the big bore ADVs right now. That and wrangling the Super Tenere into current/future emissions compliance might be a reason they haven't done a 3rd gen yet :-/ Sure would be nice. If it's any consolation, I waited a few years "gen watching" myself before pulling the trigger :-D
