I have over 800K street miles on motorcycles. At least 350K on BMW's including 2 GS's with 120K each. Bought a 0 mile 2017 non ES S10 new with Givi accessories for at least $7K less than a GS.
I have 50K miles on the MC now. The ONLY problem I have with the MC is that I have to keep putting gas in it and replacing tires on it because I ride it soooo much and enjoy it!
Did I mention the 7K good reason's I don't have a GS??!! Only time it has seen a dealer was for the brake switch recall.

I took possession of a new 2014 Tenere ES model.................serial number 18!

Moved my skid plate, engine guards and Rigid LED's from my 2013 over to the new bike with just a slight mod for the engine guard. Seems Yamaha put a wind deflector under the chin of the fairing and it interferes with the brace used to stabilize the top rail of the guard. Likely Yamaha will tell you to remove the new deflector when installing the factory part.............but...........I used a cutoff tool and made a slot for the bracket.

Now to the issue.....................bags..............panniers................whatever you want to call them. On the ES model (and I don't know about the standard), they have relocated the rear brake reservoir up just under the seat and there is also a new canister of some type just in front of that. Over both of those is a new cover and it seems to interfere with the current bag mounts available on the market and no one seems to have a resolution as of yet. I purchased the Givi Trekker Outback bags and mounts and can attest that they do not fit with the ES model. They have been sent back to the manufacturer and apparently Givi will be in engineering mode for several months to make a mount for the bike. Shame as the bags are first class.

Attached are pictures to illustrate:
Bag01: Shot showing how the mount interferes with the master cylinder (black plastic cover removed)
Bag02: Closer shot of the same
Bag03: Picture of the cover back over the reservoir and box
Bag04: Picture of my 2013 for reference with the area where these parts are located being void of any items

Now...............anyone know of anybody that has a solution? I really want to get out on the road with the bike and need a way to pack some provisions.

SWMotech?
Moose?
I won't buy Touratech.

Thanks

Hello rmarble1, did you keep your Givi Trekkers? I have the same problem unfortunately.

Hi all. Just bought a 2016
Love it.. but got to sort out air turbulence
Been flashed
Got to be the most comfortable bike I’ve owned.
And owned a few
winglets and an MRA X-screen type spoiler on a standard windscreen did it for me (5'10"). The wind just hits the top of my helmet (right where the cooling vent is).

I’ve added winglets but don’t make a huge difference. But I’m 6ft 3

10w and 4500 Kms conclusions:
1. it is a keeper
2. it does not like riding in traffic.. neither do I. hot.
3. great ride on open road (have not tried off-road yet). Does twisting roads surprisingly well and easy fully loaded with 2 people.
4. needs a firm hand, otherwise not a great ride, but once u understand that.. a great and easy ride.
5. horrible when not moving, loves to tip over and leave you looking very silly. so finding a parking spot is a pain.
6. good looking.
7. good for domestic relation - ship wife said: "happy WE got it..." (others have said same..)
8. fuel hungry when u drive fast, or slow..
9 i still keep looking for 7th gear.

My wife made the comment tonight. “I’m sure glad WE bought that bike. It has been so much fun. It didn’t miss a beat on our trip”.
:)
in my experience, when my wife "approves" of my stuff and uses the "we" language, that means "we" get to spend more money on it, than we could if she used the word "you". it works! source? dude, just trust me! (also, asking for forgiveness is easier than asking permission)

in my house it is not like that. in my house I am the boss ... so when I want to iron the clothes, I iron ... when I want to wash the dishes, I wash them ... and when I want to cook, I cook……when I want to clean the floors, I clean them, …..when I want to wash the clothes , I wash it. And If I want to make the bed, I do it ... The rest of the tasks, I delegate to my subordinate wife. The good thing about a good boss is knowing what an how to delegate…..

Hit the delete button. When it asks for a reason, just put in "fear of a long, slow, painful death". :D

After a couple of years with the Tenere I like it. My 2012 is as good a bike as my 1992 TDM 850 was, and that is saying it's great.

My complaints are few. The shifter ergonomics don't fit my foot/ankle/leg geometry except when putting it in first gear. It is heavy at rest and a handful to push around when your my age (75).

Everything else is good or great. It is fast enough and has great torque. Easy to corner and stops well. Feels good on twisty roads and is really solid on gravel and dirt. I always try to ride secondary roads and stay off the Interstates but when it is the only choice the bike eats the miles up easily.

You don't know my wife. she has a memory capacity of around 800 Tbytes…. She can remember what I said, a Saturday at 4:00 PM… when we were walking on the beach… 25 years ago. So if I say something today… I have to remember it for the next 20 years.:):)
