That's what I was told today by the Yamaha rep at the demo ride in Gettysburg. I asked him when I would see my bike. He said they would start arriving on the west coast in August. Then they need to be shipped via train and truck across the country and should start appearing on the east coast in September.

I asked if the first to order, first to be delivered plan was out the window. He said, no that's still the plan. But it obviously conflicts with the east coast/west coast info. I didn't get a chance to press him on the point.

He was a Yamaha employee and he did have all his facts straight on original May, then November, then earlier again timing. So he seemed to be up to speed on what was happening. My take away from this conversation is don't expect my bike until after Labor Day.

That contradicts Yamaha's official info that all deliveries would be complete by the end of August. ::)

All we can do now is wait and see I suppose. :-\

At the demo ride in PA last week I heard a few bits of info that differ from this.

First, I heard that the bikes are all built and waiting to ship. Second, I heard that they want to have all bikes nationwide ready for customer delivery at about the same time. And finally, that that time would be before the end of august.

Your guess is as good as mine where the truth lies, but that is what I heard.

I like what your guy had to say more than the guy I talked to today.

If Troll is correct, they should be here before the end of July. I would think it would only take about 15 days to cross the pond. :) That does not mean we'll get them in July, but maybe in the middle of August?

I hope Ruth isn't shitting me, direct word from Yamaha Canada - those will be Canadian bikes going into the Port of Vancouver, BC

This sounds very believable.

and i can't believe the boat is going to Vancouver, BC and not go 130 miles south to Seattle port for a drop. Logistically, doesn't make sense not to do this!!!

I would hope Yamaha would send Canada's bikes and the USA's bikes on the same boat. Or if they used different ships, they were loaded at the same time and are both at sea.

It does seem you are getting some good info, so let's hope for the best. :D

My bet is that Canadian and US bikes will be in two different shipping streams. I have no doubt that the Canadian SupaT's are on a container ship filled with millions of other Japanese goods destined for the Canadian import market. I can't imagine US bikes being imported through Canada or visa-versa. Many ships are loading every day in Japan - each headed for a different west coast deep water port. Just my guess ;)

I think you are correct. At least I know that when I check my order on YDS it shows Chicago as the designated warehouse. ;D

Why would they ship the bikes to Chicago and then ship them back to the west coast? Does not sound cost effective.

Hope it's August. I've got a trip planned to NC to visit my brother in Sept.

It doesn't sound cost effective to have every FedEx overnight package converge in Memphis every night, even if it is only going across town, but that's the way they do it to minimize overall costs.

And BTW, I don't think anyone said every bike is going through Chicago. I think we've been told a couple times that there are a few regional warehouses the serve large sections of the country. My bet is that all come into Long Beach and then are shipped to regional warehouses, perhaps by rail, and then trucked from there to the individual dealers.

There is a tendency to think that Yamaha is doing all this shipping with their own dedicated shipping carriers, but in fact, I'd bet they use a variety of shipping companies and the bikes get mixed in with all sorts of other cargo.

We've had this discussion before.... Yamaha is unlikely to hold bikes ready to be delivered so they can deliver in priority order. They'll dump the bikes into the shipping pipe in some semblance of PDP priority (which may have little or no consequence if all the bikes were built in a narrow time frame) but the pipe can do a lot of shuffling before they emerge at the other end. Which is as it should be - if you lived in Long Beach, you wouldn't appreciate your bike being on hold for three weeks while another bike makes its way to Duluth or Fargo.

I would have to agree with Mark. My dealer has always said it will arrive in Long Beach. When that happens He will receive my V number and expected delivery date to the store.

They are not going to ship them back to the west coast. Didn't you read the part about everybody having to drive to Chicago to pick them up?
