Set off at 8.30am for the 235mile rail journey to pick up my S10. At 1.00pm after travelling about 40miles I had to admit defeat and phone up the dealer to let him know I would not be able to make to the shop before closing.

I cannot believe how incompetent British Rail are.
A grumpy journey back home followed.

The train ticket company seem reluctant to refund, but I save that fight until a later time when I am calm enough to put together a reasoned argument.

So it looks as though I'll have to regroup and book another ticket and try again, but there goes another Bank Holiday opportunity.

As long as your image is hosted on a public server on the web, sure...you can also click on "Additional Options" below the text box, and upload the image directly here.

Hi Ray

travelling down from Huddersfield in West Yorkshire to P+H Motorcycles in Crawley, south of London.
Theirs was the best price in the UK bt about £1k.

Multimap has it as a 235 mile return journey most of which will be on the motorway unfortunately given the time I am likely to be returning.

Getting excited again, tht's hope British Rail delivers tomorrow.

Well. I picked the beast up yesterday and rode her 300 miles home , which included a slight detour to my mates house

I've not had time to take any photos yet, that'll have to wait until the weekend when I can get up in the hill.

In the meantime I'll post a link to a thread on the TDM900 website (carpe-tdm.net) hich includes a few photes my aformentioned chum took

http://www.carpe-tdm.net/ipb/index.php?showtopic=21770

Preliminary thoughts

seat a bit uncomfortabe - it might "break in"

fuel consumption not too bad - well over 50mpg - the real time mpg display certainly tempers the throttle usage

as I was running in I used the softer power option and found nothing lacking

weird engine sound/effect in 1st gear at 3.5k revs, feels/sounds like clutch slip. IT ISN'T, can anyone offer an explanation

to be continued

Your mate took good bunch of photos. Very nice looking. Not sure I’m liking the seat report. Is it low or high…someone said it’s not as comfortable in the low position. Anyway, and most importantly…a big congratulations! :)

It's not a stumble as such, but there is a point between 3 and 4 k revs when the motor seems to be "gathering its skirts" as it were. I assume this a slight emissions-inspired dip in the power. Not noticed any unduly strange noises, though I suppose I'd normally knock it up out of first at 2-3k anyway.

The seat I reckon to be pretty comfy - certainly miles better than the torture device fitted to the XT660Z - though the height settings seem to make a difference (not just to height but also seat comfort). I've also found that riding this bike with balls of feet on the pegs makes it significantly less comfortable for me in the saddle area. So it's instep against peg for me, in which stance it's a bit like riding a squishy armchair (except the XT12 is faster, and is fitted with handlebars).

additional with photo's

well the weekend is here and I've had time to take a few photo's.

Just to recap, mine is a bog standard silver with the yamaha accessory pack.
The photo's may seen a bit OCD, but my intention primarily is not to display them for current owners, but to perhaps assist future owners to see what the quality and fitment of the oe equipment is like, and to enable them to make informed decisions.

pick up from the dealers

the next few are an attempt to show the oe crash bars

hopefully you can see the rubber bungs between the crash bar and case (attached to crashbar)

the original rack is removed which allows access to the plastic subframe

to which the bottom of the top box locks

the top box also has two lugs which tuck under the front

the side boxes have nice discreet mountings

top

bottom

top mount on box itself

bottom

someone asked to see the oe underpan, here are a couple of photos
its only made of plastic so don't expect a protective qualities

additional wind protection "wings" which according to the dealer are in high demand as the actually appear to give a benefit

just a quick piccie of my beloved TDM900, which Yamaha have been holding back from US riders over the last 9 years

I hope the piccies have been of use. If anyone wants any particular picture enhancing or taken from another angle just let me know

Just to finish on a slight low note, this is how my LH pannier was delivered to my dealer. It is the subject of a warranty claim but I really hope its not a reflection of the long term resilience of the items
