I’m still working on those pics of my loading bench.
I said I had it ready to go but, in my world, that just means that I cleaned all of the other rubbish off it so that I could actually see the reloading gear underneath.
In the meantime, while enjoying more boxes of more rubbish, I’ve managed to put some things back on the reloading bench… but it’s still better than it was.
What I’m aiming to do for the pics is to have the gear that I made with the 3D printer on there so that it looks like it’s almost ready to go.
There’s the brass sorter so that it all goes in straight and, less common is the projectile sorter so that there’s less messing about with that as well.
Once I prove the concept, I’ll be doing up more of the sorter units to give away to people I know for a donation (as selling them would draw the ire of Dillon…)

So I inherited this from my "Other Brother" (BIL) a couple of months ago.

As I wrote Thursday, "ARs can't be used for hunting in this State so it's pretty much just a gun for target shooting at a range and I've got too much else going on."

Meanwhile, the daughter in law has been wanting to hunt deer and decided to take the hunter safety class next Spring. She's barely more than 5 ft so the AR magically turned into a clean older (1970s) Win 94 in 30-30 this week and will be her Christmas present. Most deer hunting here in the East is within 25 - 75 yards, it'll fit her physically, and the 30-30 won't knock her on her butt. Son has been shooting competition for years and even though he's been thru it they'll do the class together.

(The "freckles" on the receiver are not rust. The post-64 models were made of sintered steel and they all look like this.)

What's crazy was about the gun prices. This gun probably cost $100 to 125-ish when new and I've had a few over the years. Don't think I ever paid more than $275 and now I was glad to find a clean one for $650 in this area. (Probably less elsewhere but this is a higher income area.) A new base model like this now STARTS now at $1,229 (Marlin 336 & Henry cost more) and according to the gun value sites, these used Win 94s have gone up in price by $300 over the last year alone!

Even crazier was how absolutely nobody wants ARs and the prices have tanked. Turns out kinda like KTM, everybody wanted one during the COVID years and the manufacturers obliged by cranking them out. Now, none of the gun shops want to take them because they are sitting on so many and I actually had to kick in some cash to make the trade.

Last Monday we had our black powder evening. I took my Husqvarna 16GA Rolling block and the mega short (10” barrels) side-by-side German 16GA. Others brought real nice stuff too in like 6&9mm Flobert with birdshot. Different systems like a falling block etc, Was a fun night with good friends.IMG_4223.jpeg

. . . . Most deer hunting here in the East is within 25 - 75 yards, it'll fit her physically, and the 30-30 won't knock her on her butt. . . .
I heard somewhere, and don't know if it's true or not, that more deer have been shot with .30-30s than any other caliber. Good solid gun with plenty of ammo choices. "I" would probably put a thicker recoil pad on there considering her size. If it hurts, she won't shoot it. You're right about the pricing. My son wanted one and we went shopping. This was about the same time that Obama was running. (no politics, just commercial facts) The fear was that he was going to go after guns. The .30-30s that had been in the $200 range were well over the $500 mark. But all guns were crazy high at that time. That's another reason that gun sales have slammed on the brakes now. With the changing of the administration. No fear of not being able to get one.

"I" don't think it's that nobody wants an AR, but it's that everybody that wanted one, got one. The market is saturated. That S&W is a good solid platform, and "I" would keep it. I'd replace the scope with a red dot optic. (mount the scope on the .30-30) 5.56 works best within 300yds. (yeah, I know it can go further, but that's what .308 is for) ARs are fun to shoot, and ammo is very plentiful and relatively inexpensive.
