I've been thinking about getting something to hopefully reduce a bit of the handlebar vibration---any suggestions?

Grip puppies or .................................... an in-line 4? Also depends if you have the Gen 1 or Gen 2 model, as the Gen 2 had rubber mounted risers so vibration was reduced.

Agree with all.

... Not much but it is a small factor in handlebar vibration. Clean, lube, adjust the steering head.
... How many miles on the wheel bearings?
... check the wheels for being true.
... Jaxon mentioned the 2014+ clutch basket. This makes a HUGE difference.
... Cam Chain Tensioner. If you have a Gen1 and haven't replaced the CCT, replace it.
... Check all fasteners for proper torque.

To avoid most of this... buy a Gen2 Tenere :) They are much smoother than the Gen1. I have owned a 2012 and 2015 ES.

If it's never been done, check throttle body sync. If that's good, and all fasteners are correctly torqued (engine mounts, upper and lower triple clamps, handlebar clamps), I would replace the grips. Seriously, I've used Pro Grip 714's on every bike I've owned since 1994 and there have been a lot of them. Singles, parallel twins, v twins, triples, inline 4's and v4's.

They are slightly larger in diameter and super comfortable...and they reduce vibration (singles and twins) or buzz (inline 4's) noticeably. The grooves you see are for optional safety wire.

If this doesn't satisfy you, next step would probably be the 2014 upgraded clutch basket.

The first thing I did to my 13 was put on a set of Rox risers and the vibration level went way down. The 14 clutch basket got rid of the 3000 rpm buzz.

Thanks all. Guess I should have mentioned; mines a 2012, so I guess it's Gen1. Bought it last year with only 5.5K miles. It was immaculate condition (still is), and I'm up to a bit better than 8K miles now. Is the Gen 2 bike really that much better, assuming one is not really planning on riding it off road? What's an approximate cost of the clutch basket replacement? The soft grips look good, except I installed grip heaters that are part of the grips themselves.

Guess I need to search the forum with regards to the clutch basket and the Cam Chain Tensioner...

Both of these are simple. Buy the parts from wherever. Take your Tenere to the dealership or another respectful motorcycle shop and have them install the parts. You probably won't believe the difference but will like the improvement. Now to tighten and lube all the items mentioned and sync the throttle bodies.

With reference to vibration, are the Gen2 Tenere's that much better than Gen1 Tenere's... Yes. Mostly do to the forks, handlebar mounts, handlebars, and how the bar end weights are mounted.

Agree on the performance of the 714's but they have not worked out for either of my Tenere's with OEM heated grips.

Since your 2012 only has about 8K miles, it is really just getting fully bedded in; these engines take that many miles to fully settle to their normal. I also have a 2012 with about 24K miles; I did the clutch basket mod and TB sync, and the improvement in smoothness was very noticeable, almost to the point where it reminded me of my FJR!

+1 on the 714s. Love those grips. Have them on my KTM 500 EXC. Would have put them on the Tenere but have the OEM heated grips.

The vibes on my 2013 were bad when I bought it new. I never really noticed the 3000 rpm buzz, or it didn't bother me. For me the problem was anything above about 3800 rpm, which is where I spend most of my time. Miles mellowed out a lot of it and the 2014 basket also helped a lot. No complaints at all now.

Some of the old hard-cores on this site used to pooh-pooh the vibe issue, more or less implying that those of us who complained about it were wimps and/or were too sensitive. Boy did that change when the 2014s came out!!

I'll need to read up on the TB re-sync, to see if I need any specialized tools. I'm going to start planning the clutch basket replacement this week.

Hi, I have the Gen 1 2013 and am experiencing the same vibes at around 3800 to 4500rpm. Causes my hands to go numb, worse on the right hand.

I have done the TBS which did smoother the low end and up to 3500revs, but the high-end end vibes are still there. Clutch basket would be next but it is expensive in UK. The bike shouldn't be like this but as mine is just out of warranty I doubt that yamaha would help out.
