I'm considering importing in some of the UNI filters for the US Tenere if any of you might want them. I have been running them for the last year or so and I have really liked them. I can bring them in for individual customers but now working with UNI I want to check to see if any of you might want to start using them.

A few benefits that I have seen over the last year,
- much higher and away from the snorkel for rain, creek crossing, and under water work. :)
- MUCH longer service intervals between cleanings
- The amount of dust, dirt you can ride though is amazing and the filters are almost totally clean
- Better breathability and utilizes dual element foam
- Much better performance over stock with supporting mods.

Several months ago a friend and I did the Lubbock loop. This is from Ft Worth to Lubbock off road.. This is about 400 miles each way. Long story short, he had the GPS with the "loop" installed. I fallowed him in the dust for 600 ++ miles off road. Eating dust like a mad man for two days. I told myself my filters are going to be wasted dirty... When I got back to the shop I popped the air box cover and there was very little dirt on the filters. The over all filters were 95% clean. This being they have so much surface area to suck in air from. I was very impressed. These filters have somewhere in the ball park of four times the surface area of any type of drop in panel filter.
After the trip and all the dust of Colorado I took another look and they are still 95% clean... I might need to clean these darn things in about 2-3 years.. lol They still look almost like the picture.

I don't have hard numbers, shipping, import tax, exchange, etc. but maybe if there are people interested we can put together some type of group buy...

Interested.

I don't like oiled gauze...but oiled foam makes me smile.

What "supporting mods" are needed?

Are they really anything "special"? Or are they just proper sized Uni Filters clamped onto the stock trumpets? I'm just wondering if going through the trouble to "import" the special Yamaha labeled filters is worth it, or if you could just package existing Uni's.

Well sure, if you ask for Yamaha Super Tenere application that may be the case.

BUT

What makes picking the same size clamp on from their own catalog wrong?

I maybe didn't dig deep enough into it, but when a set of these came up for sale on the board once I was a few minutes too late.

I called up UniFilter and spoke to Roger (sp?). Anyway, Unifilter USA/AU used to be the same entity, until about 20 years ago. Since then, they've been dissolved into 2 completely different companies and normally don't even cross reference each others products anymore.

Even if UNI USA did have a filter with the same dimensions, you'd need the inner-spring to match I believe as well...

I've used the Uni Pods in the past. They are "structural". They have internal structure very similar to "gutter guard" that everyone uses to make radiator guards.

The units for the Tenere use a coil........ These are the ones made for the Tenere with the Yamaha part number...

What mods are required / recommended to run these filters?

::015::
You got it my friend.... No mods are 'required'.... you will feel much more of a difference if there is other work done to the bike to help it breath better.... This is just another 'better than stock' part... I'm offering them because they are made over there and a pain to get... Because I run them on the bike I can tell you though its a great product and I recommend them for sure....

Got some pics of the product itself and the install process?

Do you run the with no air box lid?

I am tentatively interested. I was steering you towards the unmarked Uni setup figuring you could develop and market a comparable kit without the hassle of importing.
