Well have been riding Blu for about three and a half years now. I have never changed the plugs, checked the valves nor had the throttle bodies checked. Thursday she will get to go to my FAVORITE mechanic for a check up. Oh yeah and she has a little over 63,000 miles on her. Lets see what the doctor has to say.. Rest assured I have done oil changes about every 3000 miles, changed the final drive oil about every two oil changes. Air filter once or twice a year and tires, whenever they are needed.

Well, Cliffo and others who might be interested, here's a cautionary tale for ya. Another local PNW guy (Wistrick) and I just did a valve check and cam-chain tensioner replacement for a friend who had not checked the valves on his gen. 1 bike in about 60K miles. The friend said that the bike seemed a little hard to start and that the cam chain was noisy on startup. Turned out that all 4 exhaust valves were tight, 0.18 mm compared to 0.22 mm minimum. Dan also replaced the original CCT with a manual one. After the original CCT was removed it fell apart during handling. Don't know for sure if it was actually broken or not, but I suspect our friend was very fortunate. Many others have had CCTs fail on gen. 1 bikes above 50K mi. with similar symptoms. Now the cam chain is no longer noisy and the bike starts easily.

Changed an air filter many times that's good for 15-20,000 miles, but not the plugs? O:)

Well she is a 2012, is that GEN 1?? Yeah, I hadn't done the plugs or anything to it. Just kept putting it off. I know it should have been done a while ago.. As for the cam chain. it hasn't started making any noise other then at start up. Was thinking about asking my guy to take alook at that also.

Gen 1 is the 2012/13 for the U.S.

Your bike is getting in the area that if there is going to be problems with the CCT, this is it. As long as the mechanic is working on it, cheap insurance to put the updated version in it, and not have to worry for another 60K+ miles.

Well she had her appointment and came back with flying colors.... My mechanic was very surprised that I got 63253 miles on the stock plugs. Valves, I was told, were well within specs, throttle bodies were not out of or needing any type of adjustment other the butterfly flaps were dirty. Injectors were clean, even after so many miles. So off to the wild blue yonder we go... End of this post for now.
