"Seats are personal choice just like windshields."

Ding! A winner! Nobody can tell you how your ass will feel on a seat. I am partial to Corbin seats. Love them. Lots hate them. I tried a Sargent seat on my KLR and it was better than stock, but I was disappointed overall and should have gotten a Corbin. Check out as many as you can before buying.

I bought my bike which had a RDL on it. When I first saw it I told the guy I bought it from that it was the first thing I was going to get rid of. I know I have a big butt but that thing was built for super duty. Thank God for the panniers as they hid a bit of the width. Well, I was forced to ride her like that for a bit and after a full day's ride, I was pleasantly surprised to feel like we could do it again without any numbness, pain discomfort at all. After a quick 3500 miles I will never be without a RDL again. As for standing, there is not better as the back of your legs rest against the seat and it provides support. I urge anyone looking for a great deat to try a RDL. I will be going to the rally in Arkansas, so if anyone wants to try it out, your welcome to. Oh by the way, I am in no way shape or form associated with RDL. I did not they existed until I saw it on my bike.

Great feed back guys! I do appreciate the posts, reports and passion. ::012:: ::018:: Thank you all. I'll be looking at the RDL and Laam for sure, defiantly know i don't want a slippery seat. I have some Australian Sheep skin; thinking of making a temp seat cover with that. ::008:: i found out about the S10 Rally too late to plan for it, but it would be great to attend that. Sounds real fun!

Well I must be the exception. I loved the stock seat on my 2012 and still really like the stock seat on my 2014ES. And rbernie I had purchased a bike in the past that had a RDL seat and I hated it. It was a butt bucket I like to be able to move a bit. The RDL also was a rain bucket which made you sit in a bucket of water when you rode with one in the rain.
To each his own and now you have met someone who has had an RDL and isn't a fan!
YMMV

No seat is for everyone, or for every bike. Typically people that find the stock seat comfortable are lighter riders. As to riding in a bucket of water with a RDL, your butt should have been on the seat. It can't fill with water if you're sitting on the seat. And, fwiw, if you're wearing proper riding gear, a little water on the seat wouldn't be noticeable anyway. This is not criticism of you, just a comment from someone that's put 200k on two bikes with RDL seats in all kinds of weather.

Everyone has there own aspects of what's important to them. People that ride a lot usually don't worry too much about how something looks or what other people think about it. But if looks are important to someone, they should certainly factor that into their choice, as that is important for them.

If moving around on the seat is important, they should first examine why they are moving around on the seat. If it's so they can remain comfortable for longer periods, that's not a factor with a custom seat, a well made custom seat will eliminate that need. If it's for weight transfer during spirited riding, that's another story and they need to either consider changing their style of weight transfer to upper body movements, peg weighting, etc, or choose a seat that allows butt sliding weight transfer so they will continue to enjoy riding the way the like to ride.

I've never had a RDL, but had a 2004 Gold Wing with a bucket shaped OEM seat. What I found with that bike is that on a day of riding in the rain, wearing my Darien pants, sitting all the time, water did get into the bottom of that bucket, probably as it ran down the back of the tank looking cover on the Wing and into the crotch area. After several hours water started to seep through the butt seam of the Goretex lined Dariens.
