+1 to that! If you are interested in the top speed on a bike with this frontal area and the friction coefficient of a tractor, you bought the wrong bike (I suggest a Ducati Multistrada). Does it cruise at the speed you want to cruise at? Does it overtake safely when you want to? That's all that matters (apart from its great mpg figures of course).

I'ts just an interesing little thing to know, in case someone asks, and it's part of knowing everything there to know about your machine. And, quite frankly, the only way I'll find this information is by reading it somewhere, 'cause I ain't likely to be testing it.

I did not buy this bike for speed. I bought it because I have always wanted to ride the Dempster, which I plan to do next summer. Having said that, I need to get to know Big Blue as well as I can, given that we are going to be together for a very long time. That includes speed, cornering, cruising, twisties, city traffic, gravel, off road etc. This first summer has all been about road manners, and learning how to ride on gravel. The fall will be about off road and learning how to do that - I have pretty much worn through my first set ot Tourance at 9500 kms and am ready for K60s. It is all part of the process of returning to daily riding after a 14 year absence, and all on the bike of my dreams.

Well, if you're not ever going to venture up there to the S-10's top speed yourself then it *REALLY* doesn't matter... :D

I've seen 121 on mine - on my Garmin GPS - but that was because I was in a hurry one day, not any *need to know*. Yet I have no idea if that was topped out or not. BTW, it goes faster in 5th than it will in 6th. ::26::

In over 4 decades of riding, racing, and wrenching motorsicles I've always found the best way to learn the most about "your machine" was out putting miles on it or in the garage with a service manual and some tools! ;)

In my case top speed was tested by casually one day riding only, travelling I pass some cars and keep accelerating, for a moment. Then when I stopped at gas station saw the speed in the GPS. This time was in year 2010.
Since that moment I never checked again top speed, because as you say "is not a R1" and I´m not need ride at 180/190 m/h, I enjoy travelling at 80 m/h in highway or routes and keep riding when route end and must go over unpaved roads. Speed is usefull for a moment o to solve some situation, but not always somebody who test top speed is a frustrated racer or an offender in all things he makes.
Of course if somebody ask me for a bike to ride "fast" i can suggest an R1 or if ask for a dirty bike or cross can suggest a WR450 and if ask for a bike to travel, to cover long distances over many kind of roads I´m sure to suggest a ST
Not all is white or black, there are gray at the middle.

While in Death Valley going across Eureka Valley I did 110 on dirt with K60/TKC. Too afreaid to go that fast on Pavement. Dirt is softer, Hurts Less.

I bought it for the lack of top speed

When I had my ZZR1400 (ZX-14R) it was fast, and I wanted to know how fast I could go, I knew how fast the bike could go, but wanted to get it flat out just to see what it was like, but could never actually get it there, at home it would mean a time in prison and on the Autobahns of Germany it was always two-up with luggage, I never satisfied that curiosity.

With the Tenere I really don't care, it would be far easier to max out, but I can't be bothered, it is quick to a ton and even two-up can haul past slower cars easy enough and holds an indicated 90 mph cruise effortlessly.

The only use for knowing how fast your bike goes is to tell other people, most of whom probably don't give a toss either, and if they have asked you they obviously have no idea so you can tell them whatever you like.

I was slightly disappointed in the GPS indicated 118 MPH... legally on a private, closed course O:) Not I-95 ::005::
It felt like my 2 trax side boxes were acting like parachutes at the time.

In 1974 my bike was the fastest stock street bike produced. A Z1 Kawasaki 900 at 12.0 1/4 mile and the Yamaha "Adventure Tourer" Big XT is almost 1/2 a sec. better than that.

I think my big blue "Adventure Bike" loaded would beat my old Z1 hands down in the 1/4, so top end does not interest me at all when most all of the fun factor on this bike is below the speed limit and in the dirty zone. :)

By the way, top end on the Z1 could be a hand full at times with frame flex and tank slappers. One guy I knew back then freaked when it happened to him, let off the gas and went down at over 120HPH. Skinned him alive. Lucky man.

Please, anyone going for top speed check tire pressures and suspension settings. Our bikes are stable compaired to 1974 but can happen just the same.

Mine is slow, so slow feeling that I've had no need to run it up to that max 100 mph top speed this beast churns out.

I got a GSXR though which evens things out and it ain't slow >:D

Wow, that's like the umpteen millionth time you've reminded everyone that you own a gixxer..and I'm even more impressed than the last time. 8) Not like any of us have owned a liter-class sport bike before. You say the darndest things, JethRoy.

He does, doesn't he, Tenerator! :D

And you'd think he wouldn't want to mention it given all the warranty issues, etc. he's had with that patched up, cobbled together, near salvage quality Suzuki... 8)

Saddest part is those ol' Gixxers just aren't the bikes they used to be, either. :))

Just to prove that top speed is kind of irrelevant, I was recently seduced into an insane contest with a GSXR600 on my local back roads. I admit, at my advanced age, I should have known better, it was very silly, dangerous and completely illegal and I won't do it again (honest, officer) but it was a real balls-out ride. We both came to the end of the 10 miles of severe twisties at the same time. My GPS read my top speed as 90.7mph. It felt more like 150mph at the time but riding fast has little to do with top speed and more to do with not slowing down. Haven't you seen the guy on the Supermoto making sports bikes look silly on track? I bet his top speed was nothing to brag about. I even saw a side-valve Harley 45 come mid-field on a New Zealand street circuit and we all know how fast they aren't.
