I have used the 704's on my Vstrom and a set on the tenere but now there is a more aggressive tire the 804, 805.
Does anyone have experience with this tire?

So it's our fault? So sorry...

The tire you ask about is the Shinko Big Block and there are tons of posts on this tire at this forum.

Toss Big Block into the search function at this site and you'll have more info than you know what to do with.

I would rather see 142 views and no replies than have someone say; "Why the hell would you use Shinkos?" or "I've never tried those but the TKC80s work awesome". Neither address your question.

Maybe no one here as tried them. Have you thought about that?

Very similar to the Kenda BB. That link to the ADV site should answer all your questions, no reason at all for us to re-hash a subject that's already been hashed to death elsewhere.

Why I did not reply... I had surprisingly never heard of the Shinko 804/805.

Looks like a good tire that is well priced. Looks like a tire that could be used for a 3-4,000 mile trip. If you don't like them, toss them.

After I saw your thread I searched for like tires.
Kenda Big Block $136
Continental TKC 80 $174
Mitas E-10 $196
Mitas E-09 $172
Mitas MC60 $196

All of these tires have similar block tread patterns except for the Mitas MC60 http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/mitas-mc60-getaway-tires which have a tapered pattern that can be reversed. Quieter on the road and more aggressive off-road.

Looks like most of the tires advertised 4-5,000 miles for a rear and that would depend on whether the rider wears the tire till its smooth or replaces it after the best is gone.

These tires vary in construction, weight, ease of install/removal.

So how much do you want to spend. What terrain are you going to ride? Sharp rocks might make you want thicker sidewalls.

I am a terrible off-road rider and can use as much help as possible. Recently took a trip... Eastern Sierra, Death Valley, Mesquite NV, UT, WY, MT, WY, ID, UT, NV, CA. I missed many beautiful off-road miles by not having a more aggressive tire. Should have slipped on a pair of noisy vibrating blocked tires while traveling and pulled them off after the trip. Currently running Full Bore M40 which is a good tire but nothing like a big block tire would be.

If you are in this area http://goo.gl/maps/6Nj54 Soda Lake Road is a good location to test tires. It has very good asphalt, terrible asphalt, gravel, sand, and silt (sand that has broken down). Quatal Canyon Road is all dirt. The rest is fast and fun.

Post some photos of the tires. I am interested in what the front tire looks like mounted.

I went back & forth between replacing the Battlewings with the Shinko 705's or go really radical get the 804/805's. I did the later. I have had great success/longevity with the 705's on my KLR so it was a tough decision. The stock Battlewings have taken me everywhere I have wanted to go so far. Even way way off road. So I thought I would try something really different. I have about 100 miles on the 804/805's so far. About 75 miles of pavement (some hiway, mostly twisties) 25 miles graded dirt. They are a little rougher than the Battlewings (to be expected) but not as rough as the K60 scouts. You tend to notice it more in slow paved corners leaned over. Next impression was it seemed to take more effort to move the bike from to side while rolling down the road (weaving from side to side). This sensation went away by the end of the ride. They seemed to have a lot of mold releasing goop on them so I was taking it kind of easy at the beginning of the ride. I can see why riding in the rain before being scrubbed in would be very dicey. They do seem to grip really well on either surface. They didn't even act up going over several 100-200 ft sections of snowpack & ice, uphill or downhill. YEMV. As it stands I am pleased so far. They totally changed the look of the bike. As I get more miles on them I'll report back.

Still too much ice/snow on the roads to ride & we are supposed to get more snow in a couple of days. :( Even my non riding wife said they really changed the look of the bike, made it look meaner & more purposeful. I want to ride..... Spring fever is hitting early.

Did about 100 miles today. About 20 miles of dirt/mud/snowpack going up to the Moffat Tunnel. Very pleased with the way they worked/performed. They did well on the pavement too. No issues to speak of. As the snow melts, will be able to get into the backcountry more ::001::

I think I'll be ordering some 805/804 for myself. If any of you need Shinkos let me know, I can send you some.

Installed a Shinko 705 Radial on the rear. Run Heidanau K60s on the front. Only 1000kms so far but seems to handle as well as any of the other more expensive variety I've owned. I'm tough on rear tires but if I get 12,000kms I'll be a happy camper. Years ago tried the Shinko 705 non radial and blew the tread right off the tire at over 100mph. But at that time they were only recommending 33 psi max. Think that was part of the problem. 36 would have been better. But at only $100. a piece delivered, I thought I'd give them another chance.

I run the 705's and get about 15k from the front and 8k rear. The radial version made a big difference. I run 38-40 in the rear and 36 in the front. handles pretty well.
