I notice Dunlop Roadsmart II's are not on the list. Maybe not in North America but available in Europe in the right sizes.

Re: Tires available in Super10 sizes, a comprehensive list

Thanks for the work to pull together the list. I have used the Metzler Tourance for many trips knowing it was mostly paved roads and the Mich Anakee for those more paved/dirt road trips with great success.
I am going to check out the German tires, K60 for my next adventure.

The PR3 listed in the size for the XTZ front is a REAR tyre according to Michelin's website. Is that such a smart choice?

I've never seen a rear tire in 110/80-19, but if it really was a rear tire, just run it backwards and it will be fine. (really) It's a common practice in some circles to get better tread life.

I'm going to need tires soon, so it seemed like it would be handy to have a complete list of what is available in our sizes. So I just went through the Dennis Kirk catalog and highlighted every tire that is available in a matching pair for front and rear. I'm not including tires that are only available for one of the sizes, even though I have successfully used such combos. I'm also not going to include prices because they constantly change, and because that gets us into a whole vendor discussion which never ends.

If anyone knows additional tires that should be added, follow up and tell us about it, and I will add them to this first post to keep the list complete.

Metzeler Tourance EXP; radials, V-rated
Metzeler Tourance; radials, V-rated
Metzeler Karoo T; Q-rated *
Avon AM33/AM44 Distanzia; radials, V-rated or H-rated
Michelin Anakee 2; radials, V-rated
Michelin Pilot Road 3; radials, Z-rated
Michelin Pilot Road 3 Trail; radials, Z-rated
Conti Trail Attack; radials, V-rated
Conti Road Attack 2; radials, V-rated
Continental TKC80 Twinduro; bias, Q-rated *
Pirelli Scorpion Trail; radials, V-rated
Pirelli Scorpion Rally; bias, R-rated
Bridgestone Battlax BT-023; radials, W-rated
Bridgestone Trailwing TW101/TW152; radials, V-rated
Bridgestone Battlewing 501/502; radial, V-rated
Dunlop TR91 Trailmax; radial
Shinko 705; radial, H-rated
Kenda K784/K784F Big Block; bias, Q-rated, tube type *
Heidenau K76
Heidenau K60, bias, T-rated

* Q rated is only 99mph; these might not be appropriate for your track days. ;) But since they DO come in our sizes, I listed them for completeness sake.

Thanks for that resource list elizilla , it got me looking into tires. I think when it's time to replace my factory tires I will end up going with the Heidenau K60 Dual Sport Tires.

Did a lot of shopping for new tires & decided on the K60 Scouts. Give Rideonadv.com a shot. Jaxon will certainly treat you right no matter how many noob e-mails you send him! Great price/service and tires on my porch overnight! Likehttp://www.yamahasupertenere.com/Smileys/DarkB/smiley016.gif on a S10!

I've checked out a few of these options on line and it seems only a few state tubeless?......is there an easier way to determine tubeless or not?

They are all tubeless.

Some are bias ply, most are radial, but all are tubeless.

Re: Tires available in Super10 sizes, a comprehensive list

Ran into an addition for the list: Full Bore M-40 Both front and rear sizes. LINK These are radials. They look similar to K60s w/o a center rib and are cheap, $80 for the front and $88 for the rear at the linked site, (American Motorcycle Tire). No experience with the tires or the vendor at this point. AZ based, good prices, that's all I know.

Another clarification for the list: Metzeler MCE Karoo-2 which is a 90 off 10 on road tire, similar to the 80off/20on Karoo-T, but not the same. The T (traveler) is more road biased, but only a little more. There is also a new Karoo 3 coming out in April of '13 that is supposed to be longer wearing and is rated at equal 80off/20on bias of the T version. LINK

And a note on Conti Road Attack 2 - Dual Sport tires: There is a tube style, and a tubeless style, both available in our sizes. The Tube style appear to be going away, Bike Bandit has them on closeout today, but the tubeless ones are only a few bucks more expensive. If you see two listings on a vendor's site, odds are the cheaper one is tube style, so pay attention to the description and ask them before ordering if you aren't sure.

Another quirky street tire potential of proven Sport-Touring rubber: Avon Azaro front and Avon Storm 2 rear. Neither is available in both F/R sizes, but that particular combo would be a good one.

The Karoo-2 is very good in off road but it doesn’t last long. On road is very noisy.
Now I’m trying the Mitas E10, it looks very similar to the Karoo T but I think is harder. ok for the moment in off road and dry road. Cheaper than the Karoo’s
I would like try the Mitas E09 more dirt oriented

Does anybody know the difference between the Mitas in their versions Standard and Dakar?

AMT is a very good vendor. I have purchased 10 or so tires from them over the last 6 years. Fast shipping and good prices. ::008::

I've ran this combo before on a V-Strom with excellent results.

I am running the Shinko 705's and they are a great all around tire. Handle extremely well on the street and pretty resonable off road. Not as off roady as the K60's, but will do most anything you ask of them and more so than the V rated street tires.

I've still have stock tires on my s10 ,but I like the looks of the Karoo 3. On my KLR 650 I ran the Mce T they run good on road and off road, but noise on payment.

Re: Tires available in Super10 sizes, a comprehensive list

Just a note on Continental Road Attack IIs. I've used them for 9000 miles (two rear to one front). No complaints on performance and tyre wear is reasonable by comparison with wear on previous big bikes FJR1300, ST13000, Multistrada 1200. HOWEVER, there is a snag. The rear tyres have a 17mm wide strip along the centre that has no tread whatever. This does not affect grip even on streaming wet roads but, when used for typical touring where the centre takes most wear, it makes it impossible to tell how worn the tyre is. The side cuts might still be 5mm deep but how much rubber is left in the centre? As this is a safety issue, I contacted Continental who could offer no safe guide as to when the tyre should be replaced. All it needs is some kind of tread wear dimple somewhere in the centre but it seems like it never occured to them! In my view, this is a serious safety concern so I will be switching to Dunlops that have overlapping tread in the centre. It occured to me that lots of current sports tyres have minimal tread grooves. I don't know if any have a treadless centre like the Contis but, if anyone has encountered that, how did they tell how worn the tyre was?

Re: Tires available in Super10 sizes, a comprehensive list

I have encountered this on Metzler Z6's and another tire I can't recall on my FJR. I put the bike up on the center stand and let the air out of the tire and pushed on it with my thumb. It became clear by the amount of deflection when the rubber was very thin. You will also see a change in the rubber texture and color when you get through a layer, but before the cords. Not as good as having dimples or reverse wear markers, but better than nothing...

Re: Tires available in Super10 sizes, a comprehensive list

I don't know, I always considered wear bars more or less a convenience thing to back up other measurements of tread depth as well as my subjective view on how the tire looks and is handling. They certainly are not the definitive measure of tire wear. Where ever they put them, there are going to be places that, because of they way you use the tire, might wear more. For a sportbike tire, I tend to wear the sides before the center.

I guess I'm saying that if the tread pattern supports putting wear bars in the middle, then put them there, but if they chose a different tread pattern without tread in the middle, then I don't know if they should add a tread pattern in the middle just to have a wear bar there. To make this a "serious safety concern" seems a little overly dramatic.

Re: Tires available in Super10 sizes, a comprehensive list

I think you're missing the point Mark. You can't measure tread depth if there is no tread to begin with. How it "looks and feels" is subjective and has no basis for measurement, either comparable or simply a strait on gauge of remaining tread/rubber.

I use up my tires. I don't change them due to some vague change in the feel of the tire. Motorcycle tire are diminishing from day one in feel/handling.

Most bikes that go places wear out the rear tire in the middle first. That's just a reality of motorcycle tire wear. If the tread design precludes the ability to measure the remaining tread/rubber, with an actual tool or visually, it's difficult for mere mortals to judge how much life remains, and this can, (has), led to unpleasant mid trip tire change requirements for many riders using tires of that type.

It's just not that difficult for a tire to be made with a few tread bars across the center so there is a reference for remaining useable/safe tread/rubber. By not providing that, tire manufacturers are ignoring user safety and probably enjoying just a few more sales from people that change their tires earlier than necessary.
