I watched this bad-boy (Discovery) launch into orbit in-person back in September '88 while camped on the river in Titusville.
I got to see it up-close and personal a couple years ago in the Smithsonian..........Amazing piece of engineering!

Apparently it is still there. . . . but. . . . it moves. Just watched a show on the Science Channel that was investigating it. The raft is still huge.
