This bike even has a trip meter for when the fuel gets low...

How cool when the tank gets down to around 1.03 gal a F Trip pops up and starts counting the miles until empty.

Yes, cool feature, but not unique to the S10 or even unusual; virtually all Yamahas have had this feature for more than a decade; my 1998 R1 has it as well as a couple BMW's I've owned for the past few years. Does the S10 count up from zero or down to zero? (BMW typically does the count down from the anticipated range on reserve to tell you when you will run out, while my R1, R6, and FJR counted up.)

My Tiger does the same thing.....when the low fuel light comes on the secondary LCD display starts counting down from 40 miles to empty.

Yes, counts up just like the FJR. Bear in mind that what final number you are at when you DO run dry will vary based on what your riding style is each time. Say, if an additional 50 miles is what you would expect in ideal conditions, if really pushing the bike hard, a safe number may only be 35 miles (or less).

The nice thing about this feature is that unless you're watching the instrument cluster like a hawk, there is always a little uncertainty exactly when that pesky low fuel light first came on. With this feature, you have a counter which tells you exactly when it happened.

I actually prefer the Yamaha's count-up approach over the BMW's (and apparently Triumph's) count-down approach because you know exactly when you went on reserve with the Yamaha whereas the BMWs have you wondering what assumption it made on range with reserve. (At least on my S1000RR, the range number it starts counting down from varies.... in fact, there is a lively discussion on several BMW forums speculating on exactly what algorithm and inputs it uses to calculate range on reserve.)

Agree on the count-up approach. The Honda ST1300 is a count down and it can get you into trouble sometimes since the calculated range is determined at the point when you go on reserve and may not reflect true range as the conditions and your riding style change as you progress through the reserve fuel.

Question becomes, who will be the first to test the range and report in

Like the feature on the FJR.

I never ran out on my FJR and always had more cushion than I thought. Hopefully, the SuperT will be the same!

I once did 80km (50miles) on reserve and then filled up - could only get 22ltrs into the tank. So assume the tank takes slightly less than the stated 23ltrs. ::)

Another time the S10 started spluttering, luckily 50m from a filling station, but this idiot did'nt check the amount of fuel I put in.... :-[

Or the stated reserve capacity is slightly conservative. I've seen both situations.

Can the Avg MPG be reset with fill-up or is this ongoing accumulation of said fuel mileage? I don't mean the constant right now average MPG.

I saw on another thread where a guy ran out of gas 72 km after flashing E. Don't push it, or you literally will be pushing it. :D

You can reset it as you like. The Fuel count Up at reserve automatically will reset itself when you fill up

That's what I got my first tank, about 37 mpg. Today was almost 42.

there are 2 consumption meters:
Instantaneous average - can't be reset, would not make sense to reset
long term average - can be reset at any time by rider
