I've made a terrible error and test ridden a GSA, it was a mistake as I've always had a soft spot for them and it didn't disappoint, I know they cost a fortune and servicing is expensive and they have reliability issues, although I have loads of mates who've had multiple GS and RT's with no issues at all. I'm going to Scotland at the end of April and will be taking the S10 and could well decide not to bother and stick with it but who knows! It's on 24k now but after Scotland it'll have more like 26k

I'm in no rush to get a bike and I will be test riding one again before I do a deal but I know the part ex price on the S10 isn't going to be great. I could do with an idea of a value as a complete bike so I can work out the finances. I normally hate these types of posts but I'm a bit stuck. Details are as follows:

2016 non ES in matte Grey
26k miles, valve clearance service will have been done, all other services done by myself, with loads of receipts
Givi engine bars
Givi Spots
Fork guards
Fender extender
Headlight guard
LED headlights and sidelights
Nav bar braces
Winglets
Screen spoiler
Oxford heated grips
Pillion grab handles
Centre Stand
Touratech bar risers
Givi tanklock ring
Touratech seats rider and pillion
Yoshimura RS4
Touratech pannier and topbox racks
Touratech panniers and topbox

It's not a garage queen and it gets used in the UK all year around, it has a good coat of ACF50 each year, the centre stand and engine bars would benefit from powder coating which I'd do before selling.

For the bare bike in stock form the dealer offered £7,250 but what's it worth with all of the stuff on it? Please don't message asking to buy bits off it yet as I'd rather try and sell it as a complete unit first before breaking it.

Thanks in advance.

Add ons don’t increase the price you get from the dealer. They will want to see only the cash when reselling it.
It is a part of their profit. Bavarian Money Wastes are only traded in when they reach the expensive service mileage.
You probably end up buying a two wheeled money pit. Hence the name Bavarian Money Waste. Anyway, good luck.
I will never ever part with my S10, at any price, for no matter what bike. S10 is the most reliable bike available.

I am lucky to own both a S10 and a GSA

If you have your bike serviced at a dealer It's a fallacy to say that BMW GSes are far more expensive to service. True BM labour rates are probably more than Yamaha but everything on the BM is so accessible. For example, to remove the spark plugs on a S10 involves a considerable amount of work where as on the BM it is literally a 2 minute job. No GS service at a dealer is anywhere near the cost of a 24k shim service on the Yamaha. It's not a Yamaha but a friend took his Triumph Tiger 800 in for a 1200m service in the same week I had a 12k service on the GSA. My service was over £200 cheaper.

In the UK if you buy new Yamaha you get 1 year UK breakdown recovery and a 2 year warranty. BM comes with a 3 year warranty and 3 year European breakdown. All used BM bought from a Motorrad dealer has a 2 year warranty/European warranty. Both the BM warranty and breakdown are exceptional. I had a battery problem in the 2 year warranty period on the S10 but was informed by Yamaha that the battery was only covered for 6 (I think) months and I had to pay for a replacement. When I had a battery problem on my GSA I was informed it was covered for the full 3 year warranty

The GSA is a great bike and probably imho is a slightly better ride that the S10 but new in the UK (you can only get pre reg bikes now in the UK) the GSA costs almost double the price of the Yam........and the Yam seems to be more reliable although I've not had any major problems with either bike.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine was looking to buy an adventure bike and narrowed his choice down to a GSA and an S10

He asked me what was the advantage of the BMW. I explained that the BM had a TFT screen, keyless ignition, hill start assist, dynamic suspension, gear shift pro, cornering abs etc etc etc.

'So what's the advantage of the S10?' he asked.

'The Yamaha hasn't got any of those' I replied

He bought a Super Tenere!

For me the bottom line is that I would never own a BMW without a warranty. My S10 is out of warranty in November 2022 and I couldn't care less!

I agree with you about dealer services.
Two years ago my brother in law and both bought two brand new bikes, his is a BMW r 1250r.
The first service (600 miles) was free on his BMW and 180€ for me..
Second service slightly (20-30€) more expensive in Yamaha...
Eventhough I have few thousand miles more both bike have been problem free and my mate drives aggressively.
I can't say anything negative against ( not that someone asks me) his bike or BMW service...
Just want to share our experience with the BMW world...

Bmw only offer the 3yr warranty/ roadside packages for brand new bikes and if used stock you get a 12mnth warranty, extended bmw warranty is available at a cost of around £1 per day and if owning you’d want to take it but both warranty’s you have to have your bike serviced at a bmw garage and on time of mileage.
I have owned 5 bmw bikes and it’s not cheap riding and some warranty claims are classed as wear an tear , Germany decides the outcome, as all but one bmw dealer in the UK are franchises .
Its a shame the S10 is no longer made but I for one wouldn’t be rushing to help the German economy again .
The keyless everything and electronic gizzmoes isn’t necessary but if your into expensive gadgets then that’s your choice ,but after warranty has expired have deep pockets to repair!!

Thanks for the replies. MikeR I am considering keeping the S10 as I train on BikeSafe, ERS and RoSPA but they are such similar bikes I'd always be thinking I should be on the other one! Who knows, I might come back fron Scotland and change my mind completely and keep the S10.

Sorry Bose but I don't agree with you

I've had very few warranty claims with the S10 and BMW, Neither will cover wear and tear but the only one turned down was the S10 battery. My BMW dealer has been able to approve immediately although a problem with a S10 headlight took weeks to be approved. I presume any big claim would have to be referred to the mothership for approval. BMW are well known for goodwill' gestures out of warranty for fully serviced bikes but I've never heard of a Yamaha 'goodwill' gesture in the UK and I'm sure it would appear on here if that were the case.

All BMW Approved used bikes come with a 2 year warranty and European breakdown in the UK

'BMW Motorrad Premium Selection offers a high quality, certified package that delivers total peace of mind and confidence making us the obvious choice when it comes to buying an Approved Used Bike. Every motorcycle undergoes a rigorous technical quality check ensuring it has an unbroken vehicle service history, 2 years unlimited mileage warranty and 2 years Europe-wide emergency service cover. '

I agree that they can be expensive to repair out if warranty especially the suspension. I've read that a BMW electronic rear shock costs up to £2000 to replace so for curiosity I checked the price of a S10 rear shock on Fowler's website.....£1827.05 although I know of 2 UK companies that can repair and refurbish electronic shocks for about £250 per unit

As I said in my original posting I wouldn't own a BMW out of warranty

Well well well I’m out of date on bmw used warranty
Things very rarely go wrong with new BMW’s and if they do they’re covered under warranty, but put some miles on them and after 3yrs without extended warranty you’ll pay the price :( also not all dealers offer good will gestures unless you’ve had a few bikes from them or your daft enough to be suckered into a PCP scheme i.e rent a bike then upgrade again.
I can’t comment on Yamaha terms as I haven’t ever purchased brand new .
Bmw bikes are far easier to service than the Yamaha S10 but Bmw labour rates are robbery , I’m glad I can service my own bike without any expensive labour issues.;):p

Hi Rob, if it happens I'll make I offer out the parts here first, I'd drop him a PM as I k know he was looking for an exhaust as well.

I think the new Triumph 1200 is looking good. Shed A lot of weight.
I was reading about it. It is only about 40-50 lbs heavier than my 900, with the shaft drive. If I need a bigger bike, it has my attention in addition to going back to the S10.
