My Super Tenere has covered around 4500km - doing around 50% tarmac , 40%good gravel and 10% rough trail. The Bridgestone Battlax come up short in soft sand / trail, but perfect for the rest. Any better replacement suggestions ?

Got just over 10,000 miles from a set of Avon Distanzias on my KLR. 98% slab, quiet, excellent on wet pavement, decent on gravel and sand, useless on wet grass and mud. Worth the cost, they will be on my S10 when the Bridgestones wear out.

didn't we already talk about tires here someplace? there are shinko's E705 Radial, there are anakees, there are Kenda big blocks (which only are good for 500-1000 miles at best).

Tires are one of those subjects (like oil) that get discussed, cussed and rehashed time and time again..............

Over on the FJR forum, there is a section called NEPRT for Never Ending Pointless Recurring Threads. Maybe we need something similar here?

;)

I think this site is too new for that. When you think about it, the questions that are asked by new people, and the discussions that follow, are what keep a forum going. I know it can get old for some that have been around for awhile, but it is needed in my opinion.

I am on several forums and on one in particular, a person (the same person) will tell newbs to use Google. I am sure that has turned off some and they never returned.

Ok, I'll get off the box now.. LOL

If the Battleaxe is "perfect for the rest" I suggest sticking with them. If soft sand is all there is to worry about I look forward to the tires. As I understand it the Battleaxes are a new design so many of us here waiting cannot comment on the Tenere's shoes.

A single 650 thumper eats up tires. My stock KLR rear lasted 1500 miles. A buddy and I went to an IRC and used them up on a 3 day adventure. On that trip I met another old iron butt KLR guy that told me to try a Duro on the rear. I now get 3-4 K miles out of them. It’s about a 60 street and 40 dirt tire.

The Super Tenere is another story. Tires are limited on that size bike. In the end it all depends on your riding style and the intended use of the bike.

Dunlop has just released their TR91 Trailmax for this use. I have had excellent results with the D606 on my WRR, and the Roadsmarts on the FZ. And the D252 before them. Hard to argue with success. I'm sure there are others that are good. Personally, I can't say I'm particularly fond of Bridgestones, never had any luck with them. Others seem to have.

Thanks chaps for your personal tyre relections ...... certainly put my mind to rest.

Storys need to be " rehashed " Rod - in this modern day tyre development advances almost as rapidly as IT .

Cheers

ps great to have people like David on the forum :)

I mentioned to my wife that there was a tire named after her. She seemed mildly pleased, but thankfully, not overly curious about it. R

I couldn't agree more. Just REMember, it took courage to demonstrate my derangement. Or perhaps, I was deranged enough to show courage. I was gonna say something about how the saddlebags on the rear REMinded me of her, but decided to disperse the flattery out over time. O:) R

Rest of the week is supposed to be awesome. go figure. Today is a hollerday in Canada. I'll decide soon.

The wife just put Conti Trail Attacks on her F650GS twin. For 60% street, 30% good gravel roads, 10% dirt riding it seems to do pretty well. They are available in the ST sizes, IIRC and pricing isn't bad, though more than the baby GS sizes.

I just spotted this tire while doing a search for Dual Sport tires. Could be a good contender!

I'm very anxious for the US (and CDN) folks to get their bikes so we can start getting some actual tire performance feedback on the SuperT on our roads. Many of us have "favorite" tires based on our experience on other bikes, but it could be different on this bike. That said, I would not expect a big difference between how well a specific tire performs on say a DL1000 versus the SuperT.
