My better half suggested we spend our 45th anniversery in Hawaii. And that's ok, but I'm not super excited to go there. Why? I've been on the islands a bunch of times and I'd rather ride (wife follows in the car) to whatever place we choose.

So, I told her I would cast about for suggestions of fun/beautiful/enriching places to go to withour flying or cruising. I've been in every state, and have seen some scenic places that fit the above description.....but what have YOU seen that has left you in Awe?!

This country is full of jaw dropping places to see. I seem to be attracted to the Rocky Mountains the most. Lots to see around San Francisco California. Ride the cable cars around town, take a tour of Alcatraz, and the Winchester House is great. Head down the coast and drive the Seventeen Mile Drive near Pebble Beach. Further down the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) is the Hearst Castle. Stop or turn around before you get close to LA.

Of course the Grand Canyon is a sight to behold and it's near the Hoover Dam and Vegas.

I didn't think anything could ever top the Grand Canyon, but last Fall I finally got a chance to go to the Sequoia National Park and see the General Sherman tree. I'm not saying it topped the Grand Canyon, but I did stand there for thirty minutes looking at it thinking it was impossible for something like this to exist. You can see Red Wood trees all over CA., but a giant Sequoia is a total different experience.

Another off the charts place to see is Dragonmans Military Museum just East of Colorado Springs. This guy is as cool as they come and he probably has as much military memorabilia as any museum in the country. A must see place. Check the website for days the museum is open.

If you're near Birmingham AL. there is the Barber Motorsports Motorcycle museum. Hundreds and hundreds of perfectly restored motorcycles. I've been to a lot of motorcycle museums and nothing even comes close to Barber.

Tombstone AZ is a fun place to visit. The wife and I rented a cabin out in the desert for five nights and explored the whole area. Don't forget Saguaro National Park near Tucson for all the cacti you'll ever want to see.

I'd take a trip through the Rockies. Start with Rocky Mountain National Park, then Yellowstone, then spend some time at Glacier National Park and top it off with Banff and Jasper in Canada. I would do it in September to try and avoid peak tourist season. Stay at one of the lodges in Glacier and take the tour in one of those old open cars. Yeah, that long flight to Hawaii just sucks. I'd never do it again.

I appreciate everyone taking time to respond.
I did a GTS on 'top ten places to see in CONUS' and.....I've been to most if not all the places on those lists. (I've logged almost 600,000 bike miles in the last 25 years so there aren't a lot of US top teir scenic places left that I have not seen.)
Out of the ones you guys mentioned. I have not seen Dragonman's Military Muesum...and that one would be good for me....but she might not be that excited about it.
We've done most of the west coast in bits and pieces but not all at once, so I'm trying to talk her into doing the coast, south to north, border to border.. I'm thinking that might not be a bad way to spend two or three weeks.
However.....I'm just not seeing a grand slam yet, I'm hoping to find something that will knock her socks off but so far...not so much.

If it is called Tombstone it HAS to be fun! Haha!!
Our plan (wife and I) tomorrow is to ride down to Oro Valley, (near Tuscon) and stay for a few days...but I have to see in the morning how much snow has fallen on our route before I decide to ride or drive. I got the Saguaro Nat Park stamp in my NP book last summer and yes, it IS a beautiful place to wander around. Arizona is richly blessed in entertaining roads and scenic wonders for certain!

Great native American tour. Reservations required but it spreads out the crowd. Lots to do and see around Page. Another classic photo in that area. Horseshoe Bend.

I've heard that they built a paved sidewalk from the highway to the cliffs.

We got there about 10 yrs after completion, so the town was still "new" since that was the only reason that Page existed. My dad was working at the coal powered electric plant outside of town that was part of the Salt River Project. Oddly enough, the plant has been removed. The last time we were there was '14 I think.
