So, just last night, we were talking about this. Apparently, like the Tenere, there were restrictions programed into the ECU on the R6. His restrictions were "flashed" out. His buddy has the FZ-09 (MT-09?) He says the -09 will eat any liter bike out there. Maybe?
I rode a MT-09 and then a R1 back to back at a demo ride. I really did like that 09 motor! it suited me really well! I can tell you this it would take a heck of a lot of mods to get that 09 to even come close to the R1. Of course that bike I rode was a naked upright bike tuned for mid power. It was wonderful on the street. I am sure the crotch rocket version of that motor will be more race track tuned like the R1 is. It may be closer to what the R1 is.

I've never ridden either one but reading spec sheets alone I would think that's an accurate statement. The guy that used to own the local Yamaha dealership had an R1 on the showroom floor. No plates, track only. (he used the dealership to support his race bike addiction) He had access to anything that Yamaha made but chose the R1 not the FZ09. Of course, that was a few years ago.

Interesting the MT-1 chain is on the right side same as many Triumphs. Don't think I've seen too many Japanese bikes with the chain on the right?
