that is a very nice bike. I am sure on some tracks and definitely on the road would be as good as a R1. the R1s that i have rode I really liked a lot. I am not a sport bike person but they were a lot of fun. It is going to be hard to match the R1. I am not sure why one engine type would be better for emissions than another. Seems bigger cylinders are the way to go. I remember years ago they went the opposite way and made smaller cylinders to pass E.P.A. stuff. I may be completely wrong on this but I am pretty sure I saw someplace that Yamaha was going to continue selling the R1 only as a track bike. Like I said not sure if that is even true.

I was wondering if they were going to keep selling it over here, like the Tenere, FJR and TW200. The guy I was talking to kept going on about the mapping and how it would be better than the R1 because of that. I don't know, because I'm with you, gonna be hard to be the R1.

Are they still going to sell a track only version?
No telling. I would ass-sume that would depend on the racing world. The R6 was axed because everybody had to go to 700cc and the R7 was born. My kid swears his R6 is still faster than the R7. I have my doubts.

R9 is interesting and may make a great track bike, time will tell. By the numbers and for the price it looks good. It isn't a CP4 R1! They bring a certain something to the table, or the track that's hard to match. At least Yamaha has taken a step forward where many manufactures are abandoning racing altogether. Waiting to see what KT's RC9 is going to look like too?

I read another article about the R1 that said it is going to be available in the US as a 2025 model and they were going to sell track only R1s as well. I didn't actually see where they were going to keep selling track only R1s after the street R1 is gone. I am guessing with the rules of a lot of racing organizations saying you had to sell what you raced would keep a race only R1 off the tracks as well.

Your son is right. The R6 will eat the R7 alive :)
Same weight, close to 45 HP more.
So, just last night, we were talking about this. Apparently, like the Tenere, there were restrictions programed into the ECU on the R6. His restrictions were "flashed" out. His buddy has the FZ-09 (MT-09?) He says the -09 will eat any liter bike out there. Maybe?

With no disrespect to your son or his friend. I would hardly expect him to say his MT-09 would get trounced by a liter bike. Talking about fast and being fast are 2 different things. Parasitic drag and torque never seem to be figured into the conversation. It's a different world over 150mph (clocked not on the speedo) I can tell you that and I know one guy on the forum (not me) is qualified to talk about it.

Yeah it's everything I liked about my harley with everything I like about my tenere...

Japan always c*** blocking the states for one reason or another.
Perhaps it's more complex then my take.

Just salty about it.

It was probably Harley throwing a fit.
Exactly my thoughts just moments before you posted. I worked in a dying Harley shop. They suck. Bunch of greedy f***ing fake patriot boomers. No offense to that gen.

The Yamaha 900cc triple is a real honey of a street engine. It's not going to be close to as fast as the R1, and maybe even the R6 could take it but for everyday riders the R9 is the one to get.

I suspect your son is right. The R7 is a relatively low RPM twin tuned for tractability and midrange torque while the R6 is highly tuned, high strung, high RPM four.

I think it only makes about 40hp until 8K rpm. Then is able to rev to a 16.5K redline. o_O And with his Two Brothers exhaust, we make him ride behind us.
