Dallara, it was great, thank you very much! I've ridden the Hill Country many times but you showed me a few new favorites.
Let's do it again next year.

Here is a video of some of the roads we rode on Friday.

I'm back at the office now, thinking about one of the most fun bike related weekends I've had in a long time. Dallara put together some truly wonderful routes - I saved several spots in the gps for future reference. Can't wait to get back down to the Hilly Country and do some more exploring. The entire event was a total pleasure, and having the chance to finally meet so many people whose posts I've been reading for the past couple years was wonderful. I enjoyed riding with everyone, and had a blast watching Dallara especially show his skills. Looking forward to seeing everyone again either at future get togethers, or out on the road.

Best,

Chris

Got back to Kentucky Sunday night after a long ride. Enjoyed meeting everyone and looking forward to getting to see all you guys and ladies again. Special thanks to Dallara for taking care of everyone and making everyone fell like someone. Hope everyone got home safely.

Gunner, good job!!!!!
Really enjoyed the editing. The personal tagging was a real treat.

So you got any footage of the tight stuff? Or does everyone have to come ride it for themselves? :)

Here's a rest stop for the crazies I rode with:

Where are the Tenere's? All I see is KLR's. LOL
The KLR guys are the crazy ones. :) The XT's were out numbered 5-3 but Snake and Coastie made up for that by leaving them in the dust ::26::

I plan on getting back down there in a few weeks, where did you guys ride off road?
Got any recommendations and what was your favorite?

Steve,
A good 40 mile dirt road to run is 210 ( spring creek rd.) west out of Barksdale (north of Camp Wood) off of 55 to 24 NW (cedar creek rd.) to 350 (white mountain rd.) back east to 55 just south of Rock Springs. 7 water crossings! Coastie will say bring Scuba Gear. ;D

Thanks Combo! Did you try out the Old Junction Road?

Steve
Not this trip but had to change a rear tube on my KLR about 4 years ago on that road. :(

Gunner, Thanks for creating and posting such a great video. The route I posted earlier in the thread has quite a bit of dirt to it and some pavement too. We added James river road to it as well and got 5 water crossings depending on recent weather. Let me know when you are headed out that way again and I may join you. Thanks to Dallara for organizing such a great event. I tried to keep up but the man can RIDE! I'm going to blame my knobbies...!!!!

Combo is exaggerating. Fred, the craziest of the crazies, was indeed on a KLR. But he would NOT be dismissed by some mere XT1200Z.
Sure, he had a disadvantage on any lengthy straight. But when the dust was flying and you throw in a few slippery turns? Fred would emerge from the cloud and laugh at ya as he went by. :)

At one time I was doing 88mph, indicated, and I wasn't gettin closer!
Fortunately, he sucks at navigating and fuel management. So he misses turns and runs outta gas. So eventually, he ends up at the back of the pack.

Guys, this was one heckuva fun rally; the rides on Fri & Sat were absolutely outstanding, & Dallara is a super guide! I rode down from north CO just to find earlier Spring but the routes & the good company were way beyond any reasonable expectations. Sunday I led Hodee thru Center Point road on the long way to Houston -- it was too good to only ride once. Now overnite in Brackettville with new best bud Bill (Triumph) met at gas pump. Back to CO via Big Bend. Hope to see y'all in Arkansas October -- Mike

First off, I want to sincerely thank each and every participant who attended our little Texas Hill Country Ride get-together. I feel like it was a success, but it was only a success because of the wonderful people who attended. It was a true pleasure meeting each of you, and even more fun riding with all of you. We had a truly fantastic group of folks there, from all walks of life and occupations, and all friendly, fun, and fascinating to talk to. Add to that was that everyone was a joy to ride with. Some different skill sets and experience, to be sure, but all safe and enjoyable to share a ride with.

We had pavement hounds, dirt dogs, cruiser pilots, etc., etc., and every mix of each in between. We had young and we had old (like me!), and plenty in the middle, too! We had folks who rode "minimalist", with little or no farkles to speak of, and we had some rigs with every gee-gaw imaginable... It didn't matter. Everyone mixed and melded perfectly. You can't ask for any more than that. It was a truly a pleasure just being there, so to each of you who made my weekend so spectacular...

Thank You! ::003::

People have asked for pictures... I have to say I have few. I think someone previously in the thread said they didn't have many pictures because they were riding! Well, that's exactly why I don't have many. Seemed with the group we had everyone was a lot more interested in riding than they were in stopping - to take pictures or for anything else. That's another thing that made the weekend such a terrific time - we spent most all of every day riding! Again, it doesn't get much better than that... And again, for all of you who make it that way...

Thank you! ::003::

Now, here's a sampling of the few pictures I have...

First, a pic of my bike on the way up to Kerrville, parked at a rest stop for a short break... Pointing toward the Hill Country:

The cool little US Post Office in Christine, TX on the ride up:

A Robinson R44 helicopter that I saw on a trailer in Devine, TX on the ride up. Don't see many being hauled on a trailer!:

A rather cool little hunting buggy parked outside a large auto repair shop near Castroville:

Along with a pickle-fork race boat they had out front:

Not to mention a nice little lake run-about for a lazy day on the water:

My trusty, dusty steed parked outside where our room block was at the Y.O. Ranch Resort hotel... A beautiful day!:

A gathering of Tenere's, and their riding buddies, outside the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum:

Here's some of our group checking out the incredible classic bike collection at the museum:

A gathering of Tenere's outside the Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop, for lunch on Friday:

A short stop in Camp Wood, waiting for some folks before we turned north to do 335, then south on 336.

Some more pics in the next post... And again, to all who attended - Thanks! ::003::
