I am supposedly on the "Bug the crap out of me" list for the next event.

Here is the email.

We've just held our second annual Tenere Tragics Run and it was a
great success and many a Tragic has headed home once again dosed up on
lashings of the Tenere Spirit.

We will be opening Registrations for our 2013 Tenere Tragics Run in
early December.

FYI next year's Tenere Tragics will be based at Longreach in central
Queensland and held on April 16/17/18.

Additionally we will be staging a 'Getting There' ride leaving Sydney
on the Saturday before where Tragics can ride with us to Longreach
from Sydney.

We will now add you to our database to receive an information pack
when Registrations open for the 2013 event. Hope to see you there.

Best regards,

Clubby,
Tenere Tragic #1.
Keep an eye on this thread if you feel the need.

Here is a very long set of video;s from the last one that started from around my area and I missed the registration deadline again. ::010::

Should keep any interested parties occupied until April.

2012 Mountain to mountain run day 1
2012 Mountain to mountain run day 2
2012 Mountain to mountain run day 3
2012 Mountain to mountain run day 4
2012 Mountain to mountain run day 5

The event is run by www.trailzone.com.au

More updates when I know more.

Cheers
Graham

Nice one GrahamD, I was wondering what the Longreach date was. Was speaking to one of the sweeps on this year's ride (Clive) the other day who mentioned it was on up there in 2013.
Plenty of time to plan for that one :)

Ok A few pics and words from the Tragics Tour...

So it was a 1600Km Treck with promo stops along the way just to get to the event..

That means it was about the same back...

So here goes..

I met the Tragics at Richmond. They arrived early ???

First stop at Lithgow..96Km in...Breaking us in gently I suppose..

Then it was on the slab to Orange (216Km) where we were supposed to meet two more tragics...

They didn't show...Clubby checking for messages..

So we gave them the allotted 30min and left...

Off to Dubbo (349Km) for a Barbeque at the local YAMAHA dealer. As with most country towns this is a "mixed business" new bikes and wreckers and rebuilders.
Some pics from that place..

The Tragics gathered so far...

660..

Older 660..

750..You know the one YAMAHA please..

WTF !! New ideas for you Jamie.. :D

Tooo many jumps..

You can collect classic Teneres OR classic T-Shirts..

First stop at Nygan (514Km) for the night..

Interesting bits..Poor ute (utility, flatbed for you foreigners).

Off to bed end of day one...zzzzzzzzzzz..

More later..

Day two..

A big day..Started early...It wasn't so much distance as what we had to go through..

Pre breakfast fun... :(
Nothing but anticipation Nerves / excitement on the bit..214Km of this gave you time to think..Yes that is a tree on the right.

Finally arrived in Bourke (Day 2 - 214Km)

This is Greg (Gmac) striking a pose..

Greg was good enough to save us both a bit of money and share rooms along the way..Thanks mate... ::008::

After filling up at a Cafe, Filling the bikes off we went for the next 214Km of fun or Terror depending on your perspective..

This is where the real fun started...

More later I have kid things to do...

Cheers
Graham

Day 2 continued..

Ok this is going to get a bit wordy as I was a bit busy to take pics... ::006::

I know...

The tarmac ended about 20Km into the first 215Km stretch.

The first 10Km was just your usual gravel strewn hard pack stuff where the bike wanders but nothing unusual for me..

Then starts the fun stuff. Sand. Super Tenere Kryptonite.
Some people may just salivate at the thought of riding a fully loaded 290Kg plus bike through that. I call them liars or deranged.

Just to give you an idea I have put together a little guide to the next 360Km...

Now experienced dirt riders will be calling me a big pussy right now and at that stage that's exactly how I felt.

Anyhow the first deep sand snuck up on me with the only visible signs being tracks all over the place. I instinctively slowed down and the steering started to respond. Oh shit.. ???
Logical section of the brain takes over and strangles instincts and instructs right hand to twist on the throttle and legs to get body back. Seems to work. ;D

Noticed tarmac in the distance. I arrived at the tarmac slightly sideways and the rear suddenly found grip. Luckily the front was pointing in the desired direction. Talk about instant correction. Of course the tarmac lasted for about 500m and it was into the deep sand again.

That was what the trip was like. 90% OK and just when you started to relax it threw up another bit of fun..

A ROAD TRAIN Appeared in the distance. If a road train passes don't expect to see anything for the next five minutes.

Notice people have stopped and moved off the road? (Not my pic)

Well at the time I was carefully riding down a nice sandy bottom trench about 12 Inches deep listening to the bash plate scrape on the sand and gravel on each side.

A bit of target fixation, a bit of miscalculation and I back off from my comfortable 80Km/h. Big mistake. The bike goes wobbly and suddenly it's not there anymore..

Not long after I land in a pile of my own dust. All I could hear was these clank clank sounds, Mooos, brakes..Air escaping. A thud thud sound.

"Are you OK mate, here lets get that bike up." "Geez looked heavier than that.."

I checked myself out and at that stage felt a bit winded but OK. I thanked the man profusely and he jumped back in the truck and wheel spun up to his allotted 100Km/h.

Sorry guys but I wasn't about to dump the bike on the ground again for a pic.. :D

Fug me..Surveyed the damage. I landed on the fan side of course, my levers on that side were in full attack position but OK..

Another Tragic was soon stopped and didn't laugh, which was a worry, checked the bike out. Didn't want to start. Oh that's right might help to cycle the ignition to reset the tilt switch.

Deep breath and on I had to go.

So this was the variety on offer..

Grey gravel on hard base.
Grey gravel on sand.
Brown gravel on hard base in a 2 foot deep track.
Deep Brown gravel on deep sand.
Fine bulldust over clay.
foot thick bulldust over something which didn't look much different than not much bull dust at all.
6 Inch deep bull dust appearing mid corner.

That last one was a bit deranged I thought considering there was only about 5 corners in the whole 200Km

And the final 500m into Hungerford..Deep sand..by that stage I had just learned that this bike likes power and attack mode..It might wobble and buck around but it does just fine. You just have to hope that the sand ends before a corner or 160Km/h which ever comes first..

So I arrive at Hungerford 215Km later..Just past the midway point... ??? :D

I was being followed..

Time to fuel up..

And the bike...

Hi tech pumps out here..

Oh yes that's the best 91RON you can get..No expense spared.. ;D

So after that, off we went on the next 2Km of tar before turning back into dirt for the remaining 150Km of fun...

This bit seemed easier..That was either because it was OR I was just far enough up the learning curve not to bother about a lot of it..

Finally arrived at Thargomindah. First stop was the pub of course..

Tragic Tenere's leave distinctive trails..

So the head count was good, and we all settled into a semi drunken stupor waiting for the sweeps to arrive..

but what did we see instead...

An S10 with KTM following....

Many confused looks as I popped up my arm with a big thumbs up..."Cloud who?" they said.....

So many tales of mud and falls ensued over at the hotel...I was starting to feel my legs from hours of standing and something was not quite right in the ribs...

Day 3...

I woke up well before dawn..The legs had settled down but the ribs on my left side were really hurting...No external bruising which meant a crack or break.
Been here before. The last thing you need is a fall on that side again. No gurgling sounds though so no worries at this stage.

I grabbed a spare "Andy Strap" and wrapped that around my rib cage for a compression bandage which made things a bit more comfortable. Took some drugs and decided that today I would try and give the old ribs a rest and do the slab to Blackall. (700Km) so no time to muck around.

Have to wait a bit for the wildlife to settle down though but as soon as seemed reasonable off I went...

Straight over to get some 91RON again and who should I bump into again...

Say hello to Paul (Cloud9 Right) and Bruce (Cloud9_Bro Left)

Both bikes looked like they were used as Adventure bikes should.. ::008::

Anyway I was a bit tired and Grumpy and decided that I should just keep on going and keep to myself for the day...

Refueled and noticed another famous sticker...

Off I went and bid farewell to the fellows...

The road to Cunamulla..You have to keep an eye out for all kinds of things out here...

I found some water too... ???

After a while I noticed some headlights back in the distance..Wasn't long before A Super Tenere and a KTM had pulled a long side giving me two fingers..

I gave them the thumbs down as I had run out. Fingers were pointed at the tank bag and the deal was done at 100Km/h..

SMOKE BREAK!! 8)

Paul looking for some reception...

Thanks fellas. It was good to have a break..

Said Goodbye to the boys at Cunamulla. Filled up with some 98RON just to pamper the girl a bit and off I went for some Super Slabbing..

Somewhere along the slab I smelled rain. For a second there I thought I may have overdone the meds a bit...but as I pulled into Tambo there was water on the road and this thing I had forgotten about called humidity..Just out of town I was actually rained on. It felt good. The smells of wet hay, dust and the coll water was just what I needed..

I pulled into a rest stop 1/2 an hour later for a bit of a leg stretch. Then it dawned on me that the Tragics were on a dirt road out there as I found out later..stuck in gooey black soil. I didn't know about black soil yet though..

I rolled into Blackall and set up tent to the sound of thunder and lighting lighting up the sky next to Tassy Pete on of all things a Tenere.. Imagine that..

Pete had come up from Tasmania. 1600Km now seemed a bit of a cruise..

I went in to town and found some of the Tragics at the pub..

Turns out 5 Tragics were stuck out in the black stuff, 3 were shipped back in a 4WD which still found it hard. Greg had lost his brakes. They removed the mud "guard" from the front as his front whell had grown to 21 Inches but the crossover line above it had been undone as it was pushed around the tire by the sticky gloop.

The other two had decided to camp as they had the gear..The bikes and the two campers would have to be retrieved in the morning..

One was in hospital, but this was an accident earlier in the day, seems Mark (Mork) (Just think Mark with a Sth Afikaan accent) was fixated on a cattle grid and din't notice a corner just after. Carnage all over the road..Turns out his sprained ankle was a break. Plaster was ordered and he had a rest.

I found my way back to the tent and went to bed a listened to the rain on the tent which lulled me off into a slumber pretty quickly...

The actual two day official Tragics event was good. The way there I was a bit out of my comfort zone. That had more to do with my lack of road time over last year or two. I was a bit rusty. So yeah, I just have to get the right gear on me and the bike and get some road time in before hand. It was actually a good chance to skill up and experience what the bike can do when pushed. I have way more confidence in the bike and me now than I did 4300Km ago. The bike does well. Way better than people generally think. I'd like to see MCN UK come along next time. :D
