Have there been any posts indicating the amount of miles riders have been able to obtain on the Super Tenere? Reliability means a great deal to me when deciding on my next bike. Consumer Report indicated that Yamaha is the most reliable manufacturer and that BMW was actually one of the least based on owner surveys. The water cooled GS is really selling well and is a rocket to ride. I'm consider either the GS or the Super Tenere. Are there any reports of greater than 100,000 trouble free miles on the Tenere?

Oh, yeah...

For instance, our own Sail2xxs/Chris put over 120,000 miles on his 2012 Super Tenere in less than 2-1/2 years, and there are numerous forum members with high, high mileages on their bikes. I think you will find that the Super Tenere is undoubtably one of the most reliable motorcycles ever made. And there are tons of posts celebrating and reporting that dependability. It is also extremely cheap to own and maintain. Just do a search or two.

I've got well over 40,000 miles on mine in 2 years and 10 months and other than the well-documented headlamp harness problem - now cured for everyone by a recall - mine has been flawlessly reliable.

I don't claim to ride a ton of miles but this is the most miles I've put on a motorcycle from the date I took ownership. Just over 18 months and 22,000 miles. Just killing tires left and right.

The bike is heavily based in a couple of previous big Yamahas, including the FJR. This is mxvet57's FJR a year ago that he posted on Sport-Touring.net:
There are multiple 200,000 mile FJRs and the highest I know of is Gray Ghost with 307,000 miles. He wrote: 2003 FJR, 205,000 miles, all 3 rotors were wore out, 230,000 miles, rearshock wore out, front springs etc. were replaced, 307,000 miles new starter, radiator, spark plug wires, caps, coils, oil pump chain. Decided to replace clutch plates also. Over 100 tires replaced so far.

Gas, oil, tires, repeat.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. Dallara, I did several searches on this forum using terms e.g. "Tenere high miles", "High mileage Tenere", etc and did not get any hits. I also googled and could not find the information. I'm happy to hear the Super Tenere has a respectable reliability history. It's a nice looking bike and I'm seriously considering one to share space with my 2000 HD Heritage softail classic and 2010 Honda ST1300. Thanks again for the responses and hopefully there will be more!

Here's a link to the profile page of Sail2xxs - http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?action=profile;u=190

His real name is Chris, and you'll never meet a nicer guy. Last I heard he had over 121,000 miles on his Super Tenere, and that was back in March! ???

Anyway, take a look at his profile and check out the link on that page to his posts, and you'll see a lot about what kind of experience he's had with his Super Tenere, as well as how reliable it's been. As for other searches, just use some terms like reliability, maintenance, etc. and you see how little it takes to own and operate a Super Tenere and how reliable they are.

If the bike has one problem it's that you will be spending so much on gas, tires, and oil & filter changes because you will be riding it so much, mainly because you'll never be worried about anything breaking. ::025::

BMW longevity went out the window with the transition from airhead to oilhead. Now they have the longevity of any bike (nothing special), and they have more problems because the ownership pool would rather make excuses for BMW than hold them accountable.

P.S.
Full disclosure
I owned an oilhead BMW for 6 years

They could have made the bike lighter, and they could have made the engine produce much more power, even if it were a brand new model with no owner experiences to judge by, you would expect from those two pieces of information that the design has prioritised strength over weight, and engine reliability over power. Owner feedback on the forums suggest this to be true. Of course, it is quite possible to get a Friday afternoon lemon of any make/model.

one only needs to GOOGLE search "Nick Sanders"

You will find your longevity answer in black n white
Exactly. Just read about Nick's adventure. Then find the follow up video where they tore down the engine from the Tenere he used... only to find it perfect... as it left the factory.
