I think it is probably a one-off done by Yamaha. That was shown in the asphalt and rubber group of pics highlighting the new competition white XT12. Looks so much better. Great match with the Akra too.
Come on Yamaha, give us this option.

I'm not sure that is CF. If you look closely, it appears to have been painted. Look at the black piece to the left of the foot peg bracket. Also it looks like the OEM shield that has been cut down.

Here is how a painter did it on another bike.
Just saying,

Special editions of the bike will be offered in various EU countries this year. A "sport" edition will be available in Italy and will include the Akra and the guard pictured above, so there should be part number sooner or later...

That is a very interesting video, thanks.

BTW, the rubber material that he used to make the pattern is the same stuff I use to make a non slip, non scratch pad for underneath my tankbags. Works great. I get mine at the kitchen department at Wal Mart, though.

Maybe Greg can give us some details on how he cut his stock cover down? It looks similar to this one. I would be willing to give this a shot too I think.

I'm hoping Wasp's exhaust does not run too hot. I will probably just leave the heat shield off. Although The passenger peg hangers might look bad if I do that.

That shield looks sooo good! Takes away that clunkly "looks like 50 lbs" look of the stock one. That and the very cool pipe. They work really well together

I just left a message with Asphalt and Rubber to see if they knew where it came from

Hi guys.
Just back on board tonight after a monster storm shut down power, phones, and ADSL throughout half of Perth for the last few days (my half obviously  ).

I must admit I took my side cover styling que's from the pics published of the white Tenere with the Acro pipe.
This is a temporary measure for me until I complete my pillion peg hangers that will incorporate pipe guarding.

I simply marked the side cover on the bike with some pin striping, then removed it and cut it on my bandsaw.
I cleaned the edges first with a file, then with a ruler (or similar) sharp edge.
Prior to cleaning the edges I cut the inner heatproofing with a scalpel and peeled it off.
I then marked the centre cutout and drilled the perimeter before cutting between the holes with wizzsnips.
I then cleaned the inside line with the dremel + files + sharp edge.
Not sure if I will paint it as I dont plan on leaving it on for long. >:D

It's easy and cheep to do so dont be shy folks.

Greg.

P.S - These pics after a partial wash down from a dirty weekend :-*

I DIG this bike.

Greg, thank you for the details on how you modified the stock shield. It doesn't sound too difficult. I will go this route when the time comes as I wait to see your final full kit version.
Remember, I called first dibs on your modified shield should you get rid of it. ;D
Thanks for the help.
