I appreciate the passion guys. I too think the ammo cans would be a bit ugly, but they would be solid. my top box is a touratech , which will hold my helmet . and I would like to finish with touratech panniers. I just do not have the 1600+ it seems, any time soon. so I have a cheap side, and I thought this might be an option till finances improved. even soft bags cost more than the cans.... I really like my bike, and the farkles I add hopefully compliment the overall looks of this machine. this bike suits me . im even thinking of using happy trails pannier rack since they are symmetrical and add touratech panniers to these next year. so I would have the same size toura tech pannier s on both sides of the bike. this is a great forum , all your ideas and opinions are appreciated....

DO IT!!! Times is tough do what works, pragmatism my friend :)

Personally, I'm one of those Guys that even though I could afford a "store Bought" set of panniers I'll probably build them from scratch before I'll shell out $1500+ for a set of boxes that in my world are sure to get bend and bruised.
Been this way all my life with almost everything I own.
I just enjoy making things I need with my own two hands.

These boxes were given, or traded, to me way back in 1974 by a friend. I bolted them down to my race car trailer back then to hold spare parts and tools. They have always been tough. I've hung on to them all these years.

Although a little on the heavy side I don't mind them because they look right to me. Since I ride Solo most of the time weight is not a problem.
Powder coating them in two colors helps with the look.

When I find the right locking latches, with matching keys, I'll add them to the boxes. I plan to line the inside with carpet next week. Seems one of my new motorcycle shorts was laying under my tool wrap and the bed liner wore some holes in a $27 "T" shirt.
Can't have that!

Thanks for the Props guys. It means a lot when stuff is appreciated. So far my total investment in these boxes is $40 for the Powder Coating Media and $64 for the DZUS fasteners. All other parts I had already laying around in the shop.
