One less threat to my checkbook for at least another year.
:D
OTOH, it might be a threat to my checkbook next year. I love that FZ07 motor and a smaller Tenere with that in it would be a hoot. Don't know if it would replace the 14ES, but could be a fun stablemate, replacing one of my DR350's.

I notice NO mention of anything ever remotely threatening replacing any of those Bultacos. O:)

Poor ole Dr350.

I'll take that DR350 the second you stop loving it.

Yeah, the Bultacos aren't going anywhere. I have 2 DR350's one is a 385 that I let my son use when he comes to visit, so better not sell it. The other is a 99 435 built by Thumper racing that is incredible and it isn't going anywhere anytime that I can imagine. I guess if I want a XT700 Tenere, I'll have to make room in the garage. ;D

Anytime you are in the area again, one of the DR's is yours to use and I'll show you some fun riding.

... But someday I reckon that Tenere will be sitting in the barn just like some old coot has kept his R100. When some young one asks "Hey Grandpa, why do you still have that old bike?", I'll give them that look and walk over and start it! (and then give them that other look with a grin)
Ah, R100..a good thought and reference. After overlooking the Super Ten for several years I vividly recall the first time I rode one for a distance, the bike struck me thinking it's not the lightest or fastest, but a bike I'd probably want to keep and use longer than most other bikes I'd rotate through before and after. When a bike does most things well enough and appears to be engineered better than most, some times its worth hanging on to for a while longer :)

Does anyone know if the S10 was always EURO 4 compliant?
If not how come it continues to be sold in Europe without undergoing any emission control modifications like other bikes?

So, I was in the dealer the other day, and he was telling me that they are out of "adventure" bikes for the year, and can not get any more from Yamaha. He was advised by Yamaha that this year's delivery of 2018s was going to be "delayed". He was not advised of the why. He speculated, as many of y'all have, that if the pattern holds, 2018 would be the likely time for the introduction of Gen 3. This dealer, being one of the highest producing, was issued a pre-release version R1m. He had the scoop on the "trans-continental" before it's release, but Yamaha won't tell him anything about the adventure bike delay. Inquiring minds want to know! ::014::

Yet NEW 2015's and 2016's are sitting in the warehouse unsold. Perhaps Yamaha didn't ship many 2017's to the US due to the overstock of previous model years, and now they've run out of the 2017 bikes

My understanding is that STs up to 2016 in the UK were Euro 3. The 2017 is Euro 4 with the addition of a charcoal evap canister system and what feels like slightly revised ecu mapping.

Just to add that as of yet, they still do not test for emissions , only noise compliance .

My California compliant '15 model already has a charcoal canister.

All California Tenere's have the charcoal canister. Something that doesn't do much but makes California feel good.

I suppose it reduces evaporative emissions, not that it would make much difference in the larger scheme of things when you compare the number of bikes vs. cars.

Gen II, 2014 - 2016 is EURO 3.
2017 is EURO 4, and I believe that the only differense is new mapping.
In Europe all gen II have charcoal canister.

In Denmark the goverment have been giving the dealers/Yamaha 2016 to sell all new EURO 3 model. After 2016 they are not allowed to sell them, unless they got a plate on in 2016.
In other words, they have to be registered, and paid taxes in 2016. The dealer can of course buy them hil self. (but they don't want to, because of the high taxes)

I know Yamaha, and likely the other three, have warehouses in California that contain "new-non-current" models. But, I don't know why that would delay the '18s. My dealer didn't know what was up either. He said "I guess I'll sell what ever they send me."

The UK online Yamaha Parts Catalogue shows that the 2017 ST has the Canister Assembly (part number 5PX-24170-00), but prior year models don't have this. Perhaps the UK bikes are different from the EU ones. (Don't get me started....!!!!!)

just bought a UK Euro 4 Moto Guzzi, and as part of the uplift from Euro 3 it has an MI (malfunction indication) light that monitors the fuel and emissions system, I assume that whilst true they dont test for emissions if you present a vehicle with this light on then you may have a problem.

maybe others with euro 4 bikes could comment whether they have a similar light? and exactly what it monitors (lambda levels within good range?)

PS it self tests at start up so you cannot take the bulb out!!

Very very strange.
I don't even find this parts number on any S10 in the Danish parts catalog. Maybe I am mistaken, but that's what the dealer told me..
Maybe picture is hard to read, because of the small size.

YES can't read it..here is a link http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/dk/service/online-parts-catalogue/index.aspx
