Don't know about that. By someone I meant the collective here that are still waiting on our back order basket. My point was I doubt OP wants to sit in Ouray waiting on back order release of the basket made of unobtanium.

I would hope that dealers performing warranty work would get top priority from Yamaha Corp...

I brought it up to Craig about the 14 basket in the morning. just got a call that it will be a 13 basket. Most likely because of the back order. In the mean time, the weather looks great for the next week and the grasshopper wants to take me places ::003::
I may upgrade at a later time, after you guys are done waiting for yours.

If you have some time to kill check out the Fox theater downtown. Its a nice step back in time.

The only time I have seen cops is at the parking lot at the hot spring or the old cemetery between Ouray and Ridgway..

But yes I will watch for them. ::003::

You went in the Hot Springs, right? It's well worth the $12, open from 10-10 and you can leave and come back same day. Movie was pretty good, and there's a store that sells gear to miners that had some interesting stuff.

Oh I meant I would be pulling Teneres over, that's why I said I'd be patrolling in a 650 grasshopper ::019:: ::022::

Might as well make it a ride report, why not ;D
Haven't gone to hot spring yet. Grasshopper took me out for a ride today, he wanted me to see places. So he takes me up this mountain 7-8 miles south of Ouray. Next thing I know, I am atop of the black bear pass. It was okay on the way up. Few loose sections, steep angles, very doable on heavy bike but a little skeary on the way down. There are a couple of sections of steep down slopes turning at odd angles and one section that has these big, steep steps downs. I thought that was it a couple times. I think I lost 20 pounds coming down the telluride side. Once you get past those steps it's easy peasy, just like going up.
I would not recommend a heavy bike coming down those big steps. I suppose they grow each year after winter and rain and washouts and what not. But they looked pretty horrifying sitting on top of the bike Today 8/31/2014. I had to carefully walk grasshopper down for about 30 feet within that step section. After all it is a rental.

Here are some photos I took today. I will have to upload helmet cam videos so you get a better idea

I'm glad Davis had something you could ride. Not a bad place at all to break down. Black bear just scares the crap out of me at those steps. I'd want a 200 lbs dirt bike. There's lots of great riding around there. ::003::here's to a good repair experience! Great pics!

Any photos of the treacherous stuff? ::017::
I will have to pull them out of the video frames. My helmet cam was recording everything, but I was really concerned about getting myself and the rental bike safely down from there so pulling out my regular camera wasn't even on my mind at the time. Although when I was reviewing the videos last night, camera makes it look less challenging then it really is. Maybe I'll do it tonight. A 250 at most on those steps specifically and very good knobies. KLR has stock 3/4 done crappy tires and it was sliding down those steps with me on top of it. Wet muddy soil wasn't helping either. It did rain here a lot in the past week. It's a quite steep down turn angled towards the drop off, with steps, with off the cliff to the side and a nice view of Telluride ::008::
Maybe that's why they have a warning sign before the crazy stuff starts to have a 4 wheel short wheel base beyond that point. There was a very narrow tire track path right on the edge, maybe 10 inches wide, where one technically could ride a bike through, but I entered it on the right, could no longer get to it and it still has steps, but not as big. It's really on the edge though. I googled this pass a few minutes ago. That section is called the steps if you want to take a look in the meanwhile. But you really have to be there to see and feel their magnificence. Great place to test the vibrational frequency of your butt hole :))

Good job doing Black Bear on KLR! Think about this: Ouray, up Imogene Pass then down to Telluride. Have lunch, take a ride on the free ski lift, then bring Last Dollar Road back to Ouray. If you get to Imogene, I double dog dare you to climb to the shack up there.

OK, while my things are in the dryer, I figured what the heck. here are some pics of steps approach, steps and post steps. I have to do more cutting up, but you'll get the idea ::001::

That's where the steps are after coming down and tight left turn

Nice crossing further down

Followed by more of nice views

Motocross style turns

I will put up more later. More awesome stuff on the way up and on the way down.

"most likely because of the back order".

Me, I'd up the game.
1st: explain to Craig that the '14 parts have been improved over the 13 parts and are compatible with your bike. Be firm, not rude and be sure he understands that you WANT the upgraded parts installed. Ask what needs to be done to make this happen. Offer to pay any additional cost associated with the upgraded parts. There should not be an upcharge for the clutch basket but you should be prepared to pay for the upgraded CCT. There's a good chance that Craig is not aware of the upgrades and the that they are compatible with your bike.

2nd: immediately call Yamaha Customer Service and make the same case. Do this regardless of the response you get from Craig.

Give it a go, you've got nothing to loose and a lot to gain........ The right thing for Craig and Yamaha to do is to get you the latest upgraded parts for your rebuild.

I took similar action when my head-light harness failed a few days after the new pn was released and long before the recall. I was successful in having the harness replaced as "good will', bike was out of warranty, and with the upgraded pn.

If Craig or Yamaha can't/won't source the basket, that sucks. surely they have them available in Japan for new builds. Or perhaps an inmate here that has scored an updated basket can make you a loan/sale until you, Craig, and Yamaha are able to source another.

I believe they have already ordered the parts that will be here Tuesday. At this point a new 13 basket will do for me. It is new after all. I can always upgrade it later myself. But I will phone Yamaha on Tuesday morning possibly getting them to send a 14 basket. Craig did not sound familiar with 14 upgrades for basket, because when I brought it up, he asked me if it could be retrofitted for an earlier model, which I said yes it could. I don't know what exactly transpired on a call between Craig and Yamaha, but it may very well be that their priority is to get me running and out rather then that and upgrading me in the process, especially with something they are not familiar with and something coming from Japan. Anyway, I will call the mothership on Tuesday. everyone is closed til then. ::003::
