This might be partly why riding boots don't have laces. ;)
The one I'm referring to are motorcycle riding boots.

I went with the cheaper one from ADV Motorrad. I don't know why they don't have the top bolted on in their pic.

Do you like the quality of the piece?

Re: Universal Joint Protector

After catching my pant leg I would suggest anyone of these...it certainly beats getting a separated shoulder after falling over and hitting the pavement in a parking lot.

p.s. I have the alt rider one...nice part...well made.

Came to a stop yesterday and nearly did the fall-over, which really surprised me because I'd not had a problem ever since putting a tie-wrap on the plate.

Fortunately, I somehow knew enough to jerk my leg up and put it back down before the bike tilted too far to save. This was early in a long day's ride and after watching for a while and seeing the snag, I realized that the guard had nothing to do with it. While I was wearing the same old Draggin Jeans, I had on a different pair of boots and the way the boot held the cuff out slightly, the cuff was catching on the top of the shifter rod.

None of the current joint guard fixes address catching your pants cuff on the top of the shift rod.

I planned out all the must have modifications to my bike before taking delivery of it and pre-ordered everything to have on hand ready. I held off ordering the above two items (brake and shaft boot guards). I finally picked up my bike last weekend and was surprised to see that the stock guards for both are metal. I presumed they were plastic and that was the reason why the expensive aftermarket guards are sold.

So my question is why buy the aftermarket guards when we already have stock metal guards that appear to be of decent strength? Are they for bling only or am I missing something?

I was also surprised to realize that both are metal, not plastic. I only replaced the stock U joint guard although I never had any issues with my pant leg getting caught. I orderd one from ADVmotorrad which was a good bit less expensive than other options and looks great.

Pant legs over your boots are an accident waiting to happen, especially off road in the woods etc. Your pants can snag on a branch and it can be enough to send you head first into a tree....
I switched to over the boot pants about 5 years ago for all riding except the MX track. Never an issue and I actually see a higher probability for snagging a boot buckle, strap or flap than catching a pant leg. Riding in mud, dust or rain it sure is nice to keep the elements out of your boots. Plus my knee/shin guards are covered eliminating another potential snag opportunity.
