STEBEL AIR HORN INSTALLATION

I have run a Stebel Air horn on various bikes over the years to good effect and even have one mounted in my pickup truck. The last one on a bike was an SV650 and I pulled the horn and harness/relay before putting the bike back to stock.

I've scoured the Tenere several times over the years for places to mount it, unsuccessfully.

Recently I re-read an article in MCN about aftermarket horns and was about to order a pair of highly rated Fiamm horns to mount under the headlight, when I decided to pull the old Stebel off the shelf and look at the Tenere one more time.

Found a great location on the right side just behind the coolant hose. Yamaha even provides a mounting hole in the frame that works really well.

Removed the stock horn and bracket, and bolted the brake hose bracket back onto the lower triple clamp.

Fabbed a little bracket to hang the Stebel nearly vertically as it does not like to be mounted horizontally.

Connected the harness/relay and done!

Why didn't I think of this before?

i had one on my Road Star Warrior, I separated the horn from the pump, then I put the horn behind the faux air scoop on the left where the smog pump was, the pump was under the seat , ran a piece of 1/4 vinyl hose to it and a relay later I had my "dog stopper" as a friend called it.

I wonder if a person could put the horn part where the OEM horn is and put the pump where you did so to keep the horn part out of the water

Looks like a good spot. I separated the compressor from the horn and mounted the compressor where the tools were and mounted the horn on the right fork leg. Just ran a piece of vinyl tubing from the horn to the compressor. With the extra wiring I've got tucked under the right side cover, I'm not sure there's enough room left for the entire unit. But it's something I'll keep in mind if I ever have problems with mine. So far, in about 4k miles, no issues.

I have one mounted on the right side of the bike where the crash bars are bolted to the frame. However, I had a special bracket made. For some reason I cannot attach the photos. Will try again.

Uh, that doesn't look like the left side to me...

My mistake, I meant the right side, but I also considered that the reader is an intelligent being. If you can distinguish that it is not the left then you are in the band of those who are intelligent. ::025::

This horn has two major problems:

a) Either it is an electrical connection problem
b) Or it is an air leakage before the compressor.

Silicone or rubber seal sorts out b).

I've had these mounted on my ST1100, KLR and Super Tenere for over 100,000 miles without any issues. Well, just the issue of where to mount it. I love having the ability to wake people up.

My friend has one of these plenty loud I have to say.
I have been using FIAMM 72012 12 V Low Note horns for the last three bikes I have owned over the last few years, it wakes the interstate drifters right up it's 9db less than the Stebel but it's also smaller easy to install right to the Tenere wiring and close to $30.00 less.

Never the less I like the way you guys split the unit to give it a tighter fit. ::008::
