When standing and getting aggressive in the rocks or back when I was racing, it was balls of my feet 100% of the time. I recently learned at the Jimmy Lewis riding school to steer more with my feet on the pegs. So now I'm all over the place on the pegs to find the right balance for different riding conditions. And now as I'm getting older my knees thank me for not riding on the balls of my feet all the time. Slamming through miles of whoops in the desert has destroyed my knees over the years.
For me taking off the tank bag was a huge benefit for controlling my beast in the dirt. I can now plant my feet tight in and get my crotch over the tank for tight standing turns and steep uphills.
