not being funny but why would u put a power commander on with the stock exhaust???? throw another £500 at her and get a full system otherwise ur wasting ur time
There's no reason a PC can't help the fueling of a bike with a stock exhaust just as much as one with an aftermarket exhaust. Basically a PC allows you to fuel optimally without respect to emission tests, typically a little richer in the lower mid-range where fueling is very lean to pass the tests. If properly setup (a big if), this will improve mid-range power and throttle response, no matter what the exhaust.

And BTW, I'm not pitching PC's as a necessary modification or even a desirable one for most riders. There are always tradeoffs.

My bike never stalled when it was still stock (3000 km) nor after all the mods (PC V, Akra slip-on, Arrow headers, K&N)....

I guess changing the CO settings using the dashboard by the dealer will solve it.

Well the dealer called me back and after supposedly talking to Maybert's shop, they were told that a "throttle synch" needed to be performed and that was all they did. So I asked him if he meant a throttle body synchronization. Without missing a beat he says the California bikes are pretty plugged up to meet emissions regulations and that they were going to "open it up a little bit for me". Oh by the way, that will be $120.

If I hadn't had the experience of dealing with the assclowns at H-D dealerships with the repeated warranty issues on by Buell 1125R, I wouldn't have believed my ears. If sychronizing the throttle bodies could fix this, which I seriously doubt, it would be Yamaha's responsibility with so few miles and not the customer's.

This experience pretty much says it all about this dealer's service department. I'm glad I found out what they were all about before making the mistake of letting them ever lay a finger on my bike. I do all service myself, but it seems like this CO adjustment (apparently available on Euro bikes) is at least for now a dealer only item.

I'll check the throttle body synch myself when I get a chance and post here my findings.

That is not the service you should be given, what a scam! Ron, in the workshop manual you can find how to set/change the CO settings. It very straightforward, anyone can do it, it is not a dealers only thing. Here in Holland and Germany there are lots of owners fiddeling with these settings, as can be found in the local forums.

Hey Blue, the regulators here in North America have, in their Great Wisdom, decided we don't need to get into our PCM's to change the CO levels. Sooner or later somebody will come up with a by-pass for us so we can get in there, but for now, it sounds like most dealerships don't even have the knowledge.

After doing the changes Devin got from the original shop, it seems that the problem is cured. The engine runs much smoother below 2000 rpm now, and will just idle along at 8 mph in first gear without any throttle input as smooth as glass.

There is still a tiny hint of hesitation at a quick start, but if it stalls now it will probably be rider error.

I agree, thanks Alex. I am wondering if we should post the fix here. I don't want to get anyone in trouble for spilling the beans.

Just post it up and mention it's for the South Africans and Australians.

Then if some one in the US of A wants to try it on a "closed circuit track bike" then they will be able to find out how to smooth it out for that quick get away from the start. ;)

Okay. Here is what I found.
To fix the stumble, back both airscrews out three quarters of a turn, both painted and unpainted one.
Then sync. This is what they did and it fixed the issue.

He also told me how to access the CO adjustment in diagnostic mode.
He said to ground the green wire coming out of the tipover sensor.
Then go into diag mode. Bump each cylinder up a max of 7 pts at a time and try it.

Good post Devin, can't have people stalling out. I desperately hope this mod gives us an unfair horsepower advantage ::003::

Wonderful! Maybe we should open a special TECH TIPS topic where we can post all these tips so they are centralized. That would make searching for them a lot easier. And as we all know, when you are looking for the solution, searching never goes fast enought! ::012::

Thanks for that Devin. Could you put this in the Modification data base, or have someone else do it?

Devin (or anyone else) can post it in the Technical Section and we can sticky it.

I will post it in the Technical area with details.
I also did the throttle body sync with pics on leaving pigtail attached for easy checking later.
Will get it posted right away. Nice improvement too!
