That's not an idle threat...he can do it. He won't be lost, but you will be.

Don't worry Checkswrecks, I still have family and a lot of friends in that area. They'll watch over you ??? and make sure you get back home OK ;D

Looking forward to making the trip to the home state again.

I am interested in meeting up with this group on Saturday (If that is possible?), as it will be unlikely to get Friday off. Anyone want to ride over on Saturday? I live near Lexington Kentucky (Home of undefeated Cats!)

Looking at the number of people planning to attend I suspect there will be some people hanging out back in the camping area on Saturday whatever time you get there. The dealership will be open and it's a sight to behold all by itself, plus the Suzuki demo truck will be operating that day, so there will be options if you show up on Saturday.

So yes, please feel free to join in even if you only have Saturday, or Saturday/Sunday, or whatever. There is no real schedule here. Come, enjoy, ride, eat, have a drink, meet some new friends, catch up with old friends, enjoy, ride...repeat....go home. That's all.

Seems to be a few on the 219 from Buffalo to Romney route heading that way on Thursday. Looks like there will be a good showing.

Do you have an approx. number of bikes, a route, or any other planning yet, for Thursday?

I figure approx 350 miles from I-90/US 219 to Romney...About 7.5 hrs of riding time on some back roads and an hour or so drone on I-99 south.

I don't want to push my rt. on to anyone but if you want the details:

219-Great Valley-Portville-Eldrid-Port Allegany-Emporium-South Renovo-Snow Shoe-220 south to I-99 south-Everett-rt 26 south to I 68 east-town Creek rd-Old Town low water crossing-Romney

(If you have Garmin MapSource or BaseCamp, I can email a rt.)

If the weather SUX, and you go the fastest way (boring) maybe can make it in about 300 miles/6 hours.

I have one other local friend on a DRZ that's pretty certain he will join me on the venture, myself, and one other KLR who posted up on ADVrider from Springville NY (30 min south of me in Buffalo), but I do not know him personally nor is he committed.

Short answer, just myself on an S10, and someone I know personally on a DRZ confirmed. I'll lend him my DRZ's IMS Tank for the trip so he'll be at ~175 mile range and packing a Rotopax so we're not walking.

Plan is to meet up with my local friend early and slab it down the 219 to meet you around the PA line wherever you are, and from there, I don't care where, how far, how fast, how slow or how long we ride between then and Sunday.... If it's pouring rain, I'm all for slabbing it down the 219-220 to Romney depending on our spirits.

As far as the route, I'll have a Garmin 478 next week, and it'll be mounted up shortly thereafter, so I'll be able to use the file it once that's running.

Sounds like a plan!
Would your group like to do a rendezvous @ a good breakfast joint around the PA border or just meet and keep on keepin on?

Food is good, might as well all start on the same playing field with fuel in both tanks.

I am planning on getting to Romney Thursday so I have 2 days (Fri & Sat) to ride the area...

I want to try the "Eastern Panhandle with easy dirt loop" on one of the days, that would be new for me. This one: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4149087
BUT
I also want to ride Smith Mt Rd & Smoke hole again...so here is a route that combines parts of http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2381718 and http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4149091

So I am asking those more familiar with this area...

Any advise about this being too much for one (hopefully decent weather) day?

Any problem with running Smoke Hole from north to south instead of the reverse?

Any other advise/suggestions?

Thanx!
Andy

Lived in Seneca Rocks for 6 years and know the area well.

It is a big loop that is doable in a day but will mean that you zip through places that should be savored. The righthand 1/3 of your loop is largely forgettable terrain. Trade that out for some more time up around Canaan Valley and Blackwater Falls State park and you have a winner.

Smoke is an easy paved ride - direction matters not one bit. Be sure to take the side trip (hard to do with your ambitious loop) spur road that runs you up to the top of North Fork Mtn.

My $0.02... often cited as worth less by some

Again... my $0.02 - that could be fun if you are on a Harley but I think the Tenere's capabilities would be better utilized heading up to Canaan, Dolly Sods, and Blackwater Falls.

That is the one... Be sure to ride out far beyond the cell tower where the cars usually stop till you get to the microwave relay tower on the western slope where the view is to be had.
