No fear... Fancy will have her trusty e09's on. They will be a bit worn down but still yet itching for a fight back in the old home state. Eemsreno and the other acolytes of the dirtier side of the Tenere will only egg us on.

OK. I know my limits. (Well maybe not, but you two are beyond me!) I may ride there and back with Steve, but I will NOT (others please hold me back) follow those two! I only have E07's!

Arrival Information

Considering how this event has grown, it is important that we add some structure to keep everything flowing smoothly. Nothing too onerous, just minimal things to help. I don't think anyone will be surprised to learn there is a waiver that needs to be signed this year. After signing the wavier you will be given a wristband for the event. The band serves several purposes, including being your ticket for the free meal on Saturday evening. Please don't try to avoid signing the waiver. It will not be used for any marketing purposes and it's not really a lot to ask for Romney who is putting on the event. To our Canadian friends, it's just what we do down here in the States.

Starting on Friday there will be a sign up table near the Service entrance (see photo above for location). That should be one of your first stops. The table will have the necessary waiver, your wristband, a couple of other forms, raffle tickets for Saturday night, and will provide you with answers to any questions you may have. This may also be the place to pick up your pre-purchased shirt. I have not confirmed the shirt thing yet, so don't get to upset if I have that one wrong.

Regarding the other forms, more information on that to come from Checkswrecks. He has been hard at work coming up with information and a form that will be beneficial for everyone. We are really fortunate to have a guy with his background working to organize rider information. I think that info will be out in a day or two.

For those arriving when the sign up table is not in operation, ask for Heather at the Parts Department. She is great and will be able to get you the documents and wristband.

Please setup tents in the designated areas shown in the photo above. There are no real camping spots, so pick an area you like and pitch a tent. Last year I think we only had one tent in the area marked overflow. This year with a fire pit being over there, I suspect it will become more popular. Do keep in mind some people like to park their bikes right outside the tent door. Which means there could be bikes passing wherever you setup. Just something to think about as you pick your spot.

If you are bringing a camper or other 4 wheeled vehicle do not park too close to the fire pits for obvious reasons.

For those staying in the hotels, the plan is to do pickups by calling the dealership and requesting a ride. I believe that will start around 4pm on Friday and Saturday. Returns to the hotels will happen on the hour in the evening until 11:00pm. Please talk to the person at the sign up table for more up to date details.

As always, this is a free event. There is absolutely no cost for camping and no cost for the onsite Saturday evening meal (for those with a wristband).

Romney has asked us to slow down in the parking lot. The dealership is open for business Thursday through Saturday evening. There are customers that are not part of our event at the store. Please don't scare them...keep it slow in the parking lot.

Finally, bring money, or better yet, a checkbook. An important part of this event is to raise money for the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind. This is your chance to really make a difference for kids that come from a very difficult personal and financial situation.

A donation is not required to attend. If you do contribute your donation will go directly to supporting the kids. It should be very easy for us to greatly increase the donation from last year. Please consider a generous donation. I cannot say for certain if it is tax deductible. I can tell you that last year I made my donation via a check made out to "The West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind." At the end of the 2014 I received a receipt from the school for the donation. I gave that to my tax guy to figure out if it could be counted. I'm not sure how that turned out. Regardless of the tax situation, it's a donation I felt made a difference and gave me great personal satisfaction.

I'm starting to feel relieved there is rain in the forecast for for 4 of the next 5 days. Gotta get some mud out there to make everyone happy. Looks like we're going to have some. ::008::

Incredible to see this thing finally coming together! I am going to try to fit both the Tenere and WR into the pickup and arrive Thursday evening after a special event at work. Rain just gives us a bit of liquid sunshine.

OK, so this is a down to business email. As Dirt_Dad wrote in his great intro, we have grown big enough that we need some minimal amount of structure and have three planning documents for everybody. The first two are:

1. An Intro/Welcome/Guidance document. This has a lot of info about the event and Dirt Dad's being modest in not mentioning his hand in this!
Romney Welcome 2015 4 23

2. An In Case of Emergency sheet which can be printed on one piece of paper if 2-sided. Please ensure that you have one of these on you, at least when riding. The copy on the web-site tonight has some notes cut-off along the right edge, so we hope to re-post a clean full version tomorrow.
Romney CNR 2015 ICE sheet

The third document is an as-yet unfinished Emergency Plan (E-plan) which is a mash-up of a info from US Forest Service, NHTSA, and others that we will have on the website next week.
(http://www.romneycycles.com/eventslist.htm?groupId=43777&itemId=227180) When bad stuff happens, it is amazing how fast our little pea-brains do dumb things, so this is a checklist framework for what to do. As with the ICE form, it is truly a case of "plan for the worst and work for the best" which we've blatantly copied from the US Forest Service because they have a proven model.

And with that, on to "Wild and Wonderful West Virginia"

And for those who melt in the rain, the forecast changed this morning. Other than the 40% chance of rain on Thursday, the weather guessers say that the weekend should be beautiful. Nightly lows in the mid 40s, so I'm bringing the warmer sleeping bag.

You can borrow my utility trailer if you run out of space in the truck. 6 1/2x14 with electric brakes. Just drop a line and let me know.

Best,

Chris

Just curious why the "Date (Circle for current ride)" box.

For me it will be the same information all three days.

Question for you off-road guys.

I personally plan on riding to the event on ST, however my boys intend to bring my 85 xt600 and a KLR 250. Both have Smaller fuel tanks. They get great mileage, but I'm concerned for them about running out of fuel with the combination of getting to the trails and riding through them. Just wanted to get your thoughts.
Those bikes don't have luggage or any spare fuel, so I was wondering if a fuel stop is generally done before you get into the trails?

Checkrecks, Great forms for emergency contacts and such.

It all depends on which trails you head to, of course, but the bottom line is that yes we try to fill when possible and there are plenty of potential local small gas pumps. Just don't expect lots of big city Exxons at every corner. Because cell phone coverage can be pretty bad, it's a good idea to have gas in the POI on whatever you are using to navigate.

Thanks

Simple answer is that the US Forest Service form had it and it got carried forward to ours. Part of the thought was that your emergency contacts or something else may change, so this was a convenience.

What you do with it is up to you, nobody is collecting info, and nobody cares to see if you circled the right day. LOL

Wow, nice option - Thanks Chris.
I'm starting to think that I may just do a couple of shorter mid-day rides Friday and Saturday.
We've got such a large group, so much going on at the dealer, and we can ride the area when we want.

Yes, I have been down that path before. Lots of single pump premium gast stations, but I'll mix it up when I have to. The smaller bikes will typically run anything that they're fed. :D

Koinz - if you can get 60-80 miles on a tank you should be good to go with most anything. You may stop for a preemptive fill-up while the Teneres don't but you will not likely get stranded. While I lived at Seneca Rocks for 6 years in the early 90's and still frequently revisit, I am not that familiar with the area north of say... Petersburg. Most of the interesting places in the mountains hike, fish, camp, climb, ride, etc... are located in the triangle from Dolly Sods to near Elkins down to Greenbank and back to Dolly Sods.

And for those worried about the going getting too rough... bear in mind that this part of WV is not the section known for the Hatfield McCoy Trails or the large swaths of of land abandoned by extraction industries that have been "appropriated" by the offroad aficionados. Most everything up in the Seneca and Canaan areas is bottled up by either private land that is posted or by the USFS which gates off anything remotely interesting. Checks and DirtDad, correct me if I am wrong based on your experiences in the area... little that will be ridden by the group next weekend will be on any "trails." Most of the riding will be on backroads, gravel roads, and maybe some unimproved dirt roads that verge on trails but are still wide and obvious and passable in a 4wd truck. But I wager that "trails" in the truest sense of the word will not be on the agenda. I have racked my brain and all online resources I can muster and cannot come up with any true "trails" open to motos that are worth doing.

My two offroad goals of the trip are to summit Pike Knob on North Fork Mtn to the gate and then walk a short bit out the bald to see the views of the Allegheny Front and then do the Canyon Rim loop road at Blackwater Canyon. Both are "roads" on many maps but likely impassable by any car. The former is likely to be the harder of the two goals and the latter has been sweetened by DD's report of an impassable creek crossing. >:D

On your way to everywhere, , Iowa
I was hopping that maybe at the Saturday evening meal or some time set aside for it that everyone knew about , we could have an introduction time.
I went to the Colorado National rally and never did know half the people there. It's nice to put faces with the names on here.
just an idea.

Like who in the world is Koinz? have you ever seen a picture on here of this guy? ::025::

Correct, everything I'm doing is on some map. That said, WVhillbilly showed me some stuff two weeks ago that I'd swear was not even a trail, then alone a road. I don't have that on my Tenere route, but there is some stuff that is nasty ugly even in a jeep. Really insanely bad road.

My plan for Saturday is the Mountains & Mud ride. It has a fair amount of steep switch back dirt roads, and I expect the mud part to come from Canyon Ridge Road. Took Dirt_Mom on her little XT250 on Canyon and she told me she definitely would not do it on her Tenere. Although it is a mostly flat road, it does require you to pick a line. Not too rocky, but sure as hell no smooth. Also plan to take people up the mountain where you took a few of those wheelie photos for me. I do love that one. Just gas and fly. Just something about that road I really like.

If Pike Knob is that one you took me to on the WRs, that is more rocky than I care to do on the Tenere. Anyone that likes rocky stuff will love following you on that one.

My Friday ride will be shorter for the same reason Checkswrecks is thinking about making his rides shorter. I feel I need to be back to the store by mid afternoon on Friday. I'm either going to do a simple ride like the 3 State Tour. Or a ride out to Smoke Hole Road and back on Smith Mountain. Won't decide on which one of those I'm doing until probably Friday morning.

There are so many long term Tenere guys showing up this year that like eemsreno suggested, we need to all meet. I feel like I've been talking to so many of you for years...because we have been. Due to my loud mouth behavior in this thread, I suspect I'll get to meet most everyone. I'll do my best to point out and hook everyone up. Of course if there's a better suggestion, I'm all for it.

Glad you guys are going to make it.
