Yep, Touratech know it's not right because when I contacted them about mine they said the same thing had happened with theirs. They refunded promptly, so credit to them for that.

I've just put on a replacement ordered in from Hepco & Becker in Germany (through Motobins in the UK) which is one piece aluminium, milled to fit around the foot and held there by screws/ washers gripping onto the foot edges. Looking a lot more solid than the Touratech effort so far.
Roco, do you have a model number for that? That is one of the best looking ones I've seen so far.

+1 on the problems with the TT piece. Mine keeps coming loose and have now has lost a fastener. The H & B piece (note the Wunderlich logo on it ;)) looks better. Never have had a problem with a Wunderlich side stand extender before. TT should step up on this one. Cheers!

I've asked Touratech, for and on behalf of the forum members, if they'd like to comment on the apparent design flaw associated with the side stand foot extension. I'll let you know if and when they respond.

Here you go a very positive response from Touratech.

Thanks for getting in touch. We are always very interested in any feedback whether it be good or bad.

No matter how much testing we do there is always the possibility that in a ‘real world’ situation a problem can come up. Although this doesn’t happen very often when it does we want to get it sorted out ASAP, especially when it involves a relatively new bike to our range (the last thing we want is customers having problems with what potentially could be their first purchase with Touratech).

Do you know what the specific problem is?

With all our parts we offer (what we believe is) an exceptional after sales service. We appreciate that our parts are sold at a premium price so our customers deserve a good service for that. With any quality issues I would always recommend to just send the party directly back to us for a replacement part and we can send the part to the factory in Germany for investigation and future improvement.

Thanks again for letting us know and I look forward to hearing more about this issue.

Props to you for dropping them a line Swagger, but to be honest that reads like a canned response. As for them claiming ignorance of the problem.... ::)....the guy I spoke to was perfectly well clued in and immediately agreed the part just isn't up to the job. I suppose it's possible one or two won't have a problem if they're only used on level ground but the bottom plate on the extender bends dead easily and I can't believe they did any kind of real testing before signing it off for production.

This isn't to single Touratech out 'cos some of their stuff is good and I think the problem of half-baked aftermarket accessories being rushed on to sale is by no means unique to them.

Does anyone have a photo of the bent assembly? Any evidence to support the complaint will aid the case for refunds and/or upgrades to the design.

I'm not sure where it is, but there is one on this forum or ADV. If I find it I'll post...

Hi japako, part no. is 420.4531-12. In the Hepco & Becker catalogue but, as RogerJ says, branded up and sold by Wunderlich. So it comes in a bag which says "parts for BMW" on it... :)

I ordered one of the Altrider parts for the wife's GS after doing a bunch of research. The F650GS twin has a crappy side stand to begin with, forcing the rider to tilt the bike past centerline at times to get the stand down. I didn't want a foot that would aggravate that issue, thus the Altrider part. I did have to slightly notch the oem foot for one bolt, but it's solid, no more difficult to put down than w/o the foot and does the job. And the bolts screw into the plate from the top, so no worries about wearing them down or being unable to remove it down the road if you needed to for some unknown reason.

Nice solid piece of kit. I'll be ordering one for the ST, most likely. About the same cost as the Wunderlich.

edit: FWIW, the Altrider piece also has a nice flipped up edge with teeth to catch your boot on to kick the stand down if you're not liking the pin.

A further update on the Touratech product. The factory will be informed of the issue and is likely to re engineer the part. Anyone experiencing problems with their part can return it for replacement of refund. I've asked a couple of GSA owners if they have the same problems .... seems not.
