Shell's motorcycle fuel up policy

Something not mentioned even in Shell's corporate literature is that if you slip while straddling the bike - and it happens all the time at red lights and such - when you go over the fuel tank is going to be discharging all the gas you just put in it through the opened cap. Even if you are uninjured in the fall, the fire risk goes up exponentially, not to mention the hazard associated with spilling 5 gallons of gas on the ground.

It's just a bad idea.

At the end of the day, regardless how you do your fueling, how about everyone just be personally responsible.

No filing law suits, paying for your failures yourself, not blaming someone else for turn inability to apply common sense to any situation, etc.

Oh wait, where am I? What just happened!? I must be dreaming.

It's a litigious society here where anyone can sue anyone for just about anything. It's the legal team's job to minimize the corporations exposure even if that means common sense is not applied where it should be. Having this policy shouldn't raise the ire if anyone. You can choose what to do and where to do it. If your choice isn't acceptable where you are, leave.

LOL, not saying I slip all the time... just that people fall over a good bit while stationary... your foot (not mine, dammit!) catches some cinders or oil and you lose your balance. That's with both hands on the bars. I imagine the problem would be exacerbated if you have both hands in the center of the bike, over the fuel tank; when you start to tip.

You've really never seen a bike at a red light topple over? I mean, I realize that the drivers in this part of Ohio are probably the shittiest anywhere, but this can't just be a local phenomenon.

Try bridge toll booths, where every leak known to auto techs has been focused and laid down layer upon layer, sometimes for decades. There's not even a word to describe the sliminess.
