If there is any interest, im thinking about gathering up a group of ECM's and sending them into Diapason. They would be sent in one box and back in one box. Then we could send them back out to the US customers. I'm looking at who is REALLY interested in 'maybe' doing this in 4-5-6 weeks? ( not a specific shipping time as of yet ) If we where to get enough people it would be worth sending UPS for the full insured amount there and UPS back. Then (all) customers can have the tracking number and see day by day where it is and when it will be back, Etc... If you know that you are not going to do this, please don't say you have interest. We are counting the units to see over all cost and shipping. Everyone going or not going will effect the price. Your thoughts ? Interest ? ::017:: Also, unlike USPS, UPS would be there much faster & back faster.... Yes, and cost more too..... :'( I was just thinking that if I might send mine, there might be others that might want there to go too ? Let me know.....

You may want to check customs, as the more units, the higher the charges may be. I did this with Wasp screen bracket and ended up paying more then I would have by myself.

I want to see more from those that have done it and have had dyno runs done. Also need to know how this will run with the PCV and Auto Tune.
That's just where I'm at..
It is a great idea though..

Great thought and appreciate your efforts.

I am interested but FL to TX to Italy to TX to FL does not sound time or cost efficent. Am I misreading your intent here?

Great idea! I shipped my ecu usps dec 3 and it just cleared Italian customs sat dec 31. Ups will be much faster and should not charge custom fees due to being a repair not purchased item.

Yep, I've read them... ::025:: Just waiting to see a North American bike done. When you got yours back from Parma, were you charged a customs fee?

When do you expect yours back? Let us know how it does in customs. If it is handled as a repair, there should be not be a charge, as you have said. Our customs does not always do the correct thing. just sayin

No, you are correct... If someone wanted to deal with just me to do the whole thing that was just kinda the thought... Anyone can send it anytime... But if someone wanted to ship to me ( no customs ) and just pay in the USA, then I would do the whole thing along with other ECM's..... Its just a thought if people might be interested.....

Jaxon - have you decided that Diapason is THE best choice?

--Rob
IMOP, yes.... If / when I do mine it will be sent there...

Ive spoken to other "ECM flash" joints, and I think this is the best. Also they have a connection with Yamaha. IMOP, that's how they know where the encrypted file is on the ECM.

I'm definitely interested, Jaxon.

I've been thinking about buying a second ECU just so I could have one to send to Diapason for reprogramming yet still having the original one around *just in case*. I also don't want to have the bike down and out while I'm waiting for Diapason to work their magic on the ECU.

Anybody got the part number for the USA-spec Super Tenere ECU handy?

Thanks!

Dallara

I will tell you what will hold you back from doing this.....

I asked my dealer how much an ECU costs (just in case mine got lost in the mail to/from Diapason) and the answer is: EURO 2,300.- which at a EURO/Dollare rate of 1.3 makes US$ 3,000.-

The European bikes have an integrated immobilizer (therefore the European ECU's differ from the US ones which do not have an integrated immobilizer) so they do differ in that respect from the US bikes.
So, I think the price of a European ECU will be a hurdle for most (slight understatement).

When I asked my dealer why it was so ridiculously expensive he suggested that the price was deliberately put up that high by Yamaha to prevent people from ordering ECU's for stolen bikes eg. in order to prevent fraud.

Yup! I don't even want to think how much they'd charge me here in Japan. Changing to a Euro ECU would cost US riders even more because part of the immobilizer is contained in the key switch. Cha CHING!!
