Seeking feedback on seats. I've modified the seat positioning (flattened out) as posted about on here a few times and still hate the factory seat. After a couple or thee hours I feel like somebody drilled a hole at the bottom of my spine. Anyway, I'm up in the air about which aftermarket to get. I was going to initially go with Cobin, then viewed Saddleman, then viewed Sagent, and then they are the high dollar seats. I'm looking to spend in the price range of the three I've listed but don't have the opportunity to put butt in seat before buying. Anyone willing to provide pro's and con's of the ones listed? I thank you in advance

I don't have any aftermarket ones, but I've read a few complaints on all of them, except Russel Day Long.
That's just me though. ::014::

You'll get a lot of different opinions on the pre fab seats. If you really want a seat that's built for your behind it'll cost you some extra $$$. I had a Russel Day Long on my 2012 and loved it. It was worth every penny I paid for it and I'll be getting another on my 2015. My dad's running a Sargent on his 2014 and he's currently looking for another option.

Maybe see if you can find/borrow a cheap Airhawk seat pad to try...seems to work for many of us. (medium cruiser fits good) Might be worth a shot...I don't use it for short rides, but if over an hour or so I put it on and it works good for my behind. You can also play a bit with the bars (forward/back) as this has an effect on sitting position and thus pressure on tailbone area.

I agree with the Air Hawk suggestion. I did the SS1000 on it last year. Of course, the Honda NC 700X I had just come off of was like a torture device compared to the Tenere stock seat.

I only "need" the Air Hawk on all day/ multi day trips. The Tenere seat is good for my hard ass.

By the time I spent money on Air Hawks, Seat Concepts, and others, I could have easily afforded a Russell Day long. That's what I have now and will never have anything else. Said it so many times, It's the best money I ever spent on a motorcycle. Comfort is never an issue anymore. True it takes a little bit of effort to get one built, but it is more than worth it. RDL for sure!

Thanks to all. I don't know whats up with this bike and my butt - only bike I've ever had an issue with. Love the bike and am starting to wonder if I love hating the seat. I think I know whats the smartest and most certain way to go - guess I just needed to hear it from you guys as well. The Russell Day Long is the one I was referencing when I said high dollar; never heard a bad word about one from anyone. Guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and spend some bucks.

I have just bought an S10 that has Seat Concepts seats on it and on first look it seemed rock hard but after riding the bike i am really suprised how comfortable it is,i've not done long mileages yet but the first impression of the seats is very good.

I did the seat concepts and liked it till I spent 2 hours on it goin to ny. Then not so much. I have a russell now and in April did 5000mi on it from fla to big bend and carlsbad then up to ny. Never thought about my butt once. I have a sargent that I also tried before the russell but it didn't work for me. Think about peg position also. Want to have some weight on your upper thighs on long trips.

I am in the same predicament as yourself. However, I have already tried two other options to no avail. The first solution I tried was the Seat Concepts method. That was still too hard in my opinion. Then, I added the Airhawk cushion to my Seat Concepts seat. That certainly helped, but I still have hot spots after a few hours of riding. I finally bit the bullet and purchased a RDL. I have never heard anything negative about the RDL lineup, and everyone raves about them. So, I just purchased mine two weeks ago.

Just an F.Y.I., my RDL seat will not be manufactured until July 29th. That is how far back logged they are right now with all the new orders. In the end, you get what you pay for and comfort you should not skimp out on.

So I just had my seat created by Seth Laam Seats and I can say enough good about it. My best friend had his done the day before at Seth's also.
Let's put this into perspective... You get a custom seat with a lifetime warranty that will even match your existing seat (covering) for around $300.
My buddy and i proceeded to spend 12-14 hours for the next 5 days in our new seats ;D
Seth is a real nice guy, easy to talk to and does great work along with his helper Jesse.
Make a trip out of it, ride out to see him, you wont regret it (plus they have some incredible roads out that way).

Thanks Seth and Jesse

I've got over 120,000 miles on the two Tenere' I've owned. The stock seat on my 2012 was great ... No problems! This 2014ES... Not so much. But like you I don't want to spend the $$ on something that just doesn't work.
Here is someone who is not a Russel Day Long fan. Had one for a while on an ST1100 and an FJR. I got to hate them... They are rain buckets AND forget moving right and left!! You are stuck IN this bucket!
A friend with a GS showed me a Russel that has some kind of material that allows water THROUGH it... and drains out off the pan. ??? Hmmmm... Ok perhaps butt bucket solved... ?? But what if water gets IN and then it freezes??? Butt you still can not move left and right on the seat! ??? I'm sooo confused!!
Someone... Come and let me try your "Wonderful seat" on my bike!

Over the years I loved Sargent seats on quite a few bikes.
???

The stock seat didn't work for me at all. Ordered seat concepts front and rear for my wife and I. Big improvement, especially after I did the seat lowering mod from the forum. That being said, i still start getting pretty uncomfortable after 2-3 hrs. What's odd is that it's not really my butt getting sore, but more the back of my legs/hamstrings towards my butt. I have 1" risers, but maybe need the 2" Rox. Just hate upgrading stuff twice, been doing that a lot lately.

I will throw this out there, while the bike isn't meant to be a beauty queen and many people don't care at all, my god do I find the RDL seats to just look hideously out of place. They sure look comfortable, but seem to take away from the looks a lot in my opinion. Looks like something out of the 1970's.

As you can see by the variance in posts, there are certainly pro's and con's to every seat manufacture out there. As for myself, I already shelled out over 300.00 with what I have tried so far. Now I am paying out about 600.00 for comfort. I don't care about looks any longer, I just want a nice comfortable ride on long tours. You can keep shoveling out your hard earned money like I did, or just invest in something with a money back and lifetime guarantee. As for myself, I am willing to try the RDL out. If I don't like it, they will provide a 100% money back guarantee after two minor adjustments. Sounds like a safe bet in my opinion.

I paid $500 for the Sargent front and rear seats last year. I think it is a slight improvement over the stock seat, not quite what I was expecting though. I see they are up to $550 now. That's a lot of $ for a small improvement.

I agree. I'll probably bite the bullet eventually.
