I just got the notice as well. Mine is a 2017. I am going to call tomorrow and check if mine is affected. If it is I'll just have the dealer give me the switch and install it myself.
I just checked and mine is on the list.I checked with my dealer (WWW.Cycleshacknorth.com) after going thru the Yamaha website. Yep, my 2017 non ES is on the list. The bike is there already for some work so they have ordered the kit and will have it installed prior to my return from the land of ice and snow (Chicago).
LOL Jeff!! I too have USPS Informed Delivery. It's a pretty cool service considering how crummy the USPS service is!! BTW I have had a few times that letters show up but come later than all the mail that shows up.Strangely, the USPS Informed Delivery email showed the recall notice was in yesterday’s mail.
2071 ???WARNING!! WARNING!! It is very important to remember that you need to get your bike in for repair under this recall ASAP!!! The repair is time sensitive as far as getting it performed. I'm on the injured list and have to figure a way to get mine to the service department soon.
I called Yamaha USA and was informed this repair needs to be done by 2071 or it will no longer be valid!!
It showed up in today's mail finally. I've found the informed delivery to be pretty reliable. This is the first time it's told me there was mail coming that did not arrive.LOL Jeff!! I am going to try the self install route, but if not I already have removed both right side panels, wire clips/ties, and marked the brake light switch wiring harness from the front brake lever to where it plugs in the harness under the right panel. A normal tech can do the recall in less than 15 minutes with the access I provided.I got mine too today for the 2014. Would love to know if anybody has luck just getting the part and installing themselves. I am not a big fan of the local shops.

I have done warranty work myself in past by just getting the part. This is different. Safety recalls per Yamaha USA can only be done by the dealer. The only way around it is by purchasing the part yourself and doing it.I totally understand why some folks would prefer to change the switch themselves.
But Yamaha is paying the dealer to make the switch and they really don’t want others messing with it.
Thought I remembered reading about some generation one owners have sticking brake light issues so I’m kind of surprised they haven’t had to recall all years of the Tenere for this issue.
