Can,t be cataracts I have those in my good eye and the mirrors are still rock steady, now if I could only see what was in them.
Bingo! If the mirrors are blurry on the bikes of those who complain of vibs, it's not a sensitivity issue. The mirrors on my S10 are clear as the day is long...no double images.snakebitten said:Japako's description of his mirrors tells me his bike and my bike are not comparable. So I'm not so sure it is a personal sensativity issue now. Seriously, my mirrors are clear as a bell at cruise. 5th or 6th gear. (indicated 72-87, depending)
Something isn't right.
I get the mirror blur too.Tremor38 said:Bingo! If the mirrors are blurry on the bikes of those who complain of vibs, it's not a sensitivity issue. The mirrors on my S10 are clear as the day is long...no double images.
Sounds about like mine. Keep us posted of your results after going back to factory settings.Mellow said:My mirror are a little blurry... I have a J&M CB mount on the left one so I expected that to be more blurry but the right one is about 1/2 as blurry.. but still blurry... how many times can you use the word blurry in a sentence.
I may set my gas o2 settings and air screw back to the factory setting to see if that makes any difference as the mirrors were clear when I first got the bike.
I don't think you could use a bar snake on the S10. On many bikes the bar ends are secured by a rubber donut that expands inside the handle bars as the bolt is tightened. On the S10, the nut is welded to the bars. I don't know how you would get past the nut unless you cut it out. Then you would have to figure out how to re-install the bar ends.EricV said:Can't help but wonder about a throttle body sync and if anyone has tried those "bar snake" devices on the S10?
I have not been given an answer from Yamaha yet. The dealership said that they are waiting on the RTA (Regional Technical Advisor) to tell them what the next step will be. When I spoke to Yamaha yesterday, just to pester them, I called bullshit on the "we've never heard of this before" line. If we hound them enough maybe we will get some sort of resolution to this problem. Japako PLEASE call back again to the same number, option #4, and extension #7867. This will put you in touch to the same person I spoke to, whom I believe is a supervisor. We need to stick together on this.japako said:I removed the crash bars and skid plate and took it for a ride. The vibes are not as bad in the lower rpm range but are still there at 4k and up to around 5k. The mirrors are much clearer at the lower rpms, but no change in the upper range.
I called Yamaha customer service and they have not heard of the problem yada, yada, yada...
The person I spoke with said it was supposed to vibrate. So much for that.
I have decided to try the Rox riser with dampening. If that gets rid of the buzz at the higher rpms, I'll keep the bike.
If I didn't like the bike so much, it would be history. ::025::
I am going to play with the TBS some more in the morning. I don't think this will work, but what the hell, nothing ventured, nothing gained..(I have been playing with the tbs for the last month).
@ Scottie Boy, Have you heard anything from Yamaha?
The stock mirrors on the S10 all mount the same way, poindexter. ::025:: I'd say that's a much better indicator than speculating about various sensitivities of people when it comes to vibration. Secondly, we are talking about those riders who have mirrors (again, S10 OEM) that vibrate steady-state...not just during RPM changes and certain load situations. Thirdly the guys that have the steady state mirror vibe also report a constant 'buzzy' nature to the vibration. All of those things are a far cry from optimal or even normal for this machine. Couple this with the fact that 3 or 4 S10s in SA have been replaced by Yamaha due to vibs, and you can't just dismiss this like nothing is wrong.markjenn said:I would never consider mirror clearness as the definitive vibration litmus test. I have had bikes with relatively clear mirrors and annoying vibes and vice versa. And the mounting of the mirrors is just as big an influence as the vibes the engine is making. Most bikes, including my S10, fuzzy up the mirrors to some extent in some RPM ranges and load situations.

Jim,japako said:As I have posted in another thread, I have ridden many bikes and this is by far the worst in the vibration dept.
I am now wearing a wrist brace because of the vibes and needless to say, the bike is not being ridden.
It is strange that so few people notice this, while others say their bike is vibe free, or they don't notice.
Perhaps it is a problem with only certain bikes..
I have a kaoka cruise and that does help some, but not enough.Texas Country Rider said:Jim,
I had this problem with my FJR and the Super Tenere. The solution for me was a McCruise control. It allowed me to rest my right hand off the throttle.
I have not had this problem on my BMW K1300GT or Honda GL1800!
Hope you find a solution.
Best Regards,

Yeah, I suppose there's a point where one just has to say enough's enough if it's truly uncomfortable. Sorry to hear the bike didn't work out for you. Let us know what you replace it with and how that worked out.japako said:I have a kaoka cruise and that does help some, but not enough.
Thanks for offering some ideas, but I have decided to sell the bike. I am selling parts in the for sale section.
