The left hand side generator cover has been holed by a stone. I have ordered a replacement cover ana a gasket.

Looking at the parts diagram it looks like the cover supports a roller bearing that will need to be swapped over. What temperature is recommended to heat the cover to allow for removal and insertion. I am guessing the cover is magnesium but could be aluminum.

Since there is a gasket I was not planning using a sealent/goo. I have never owned a Japanese bike before but I would assume this is the case.

I have the service manual so I know bolt torque settings and am aware of need to use loctite.

I don't think there is a bearing in that cover. Yes, use a new gasket and then use yamabond around the wires that pas through the cover to the out side and TQ everything to spec. Be carful, powerful magnets at work when doing this job. You can pinch your fingers bad when reinstalling. I do believe that cover is magnesium.
