Depends how much you want to spend. If you want brighter, you can get that with LEDs. And if you replace those gargantuan blinkers with something sleeker, I think it improves the look. And riding at night, I didn't like the way the light from the stock blinkers messed with my vision.
I replaced my 2012's blinkers with the Yamaha LED ones (Yamaha part #YME-W0789-00). Note that Yamaha doesn't sell those in the US, so options are ebay, a non-US seller that will ship here, or an aftermarket alternative (like this

Resistors are a pain in my opinion (although the Yamaha kit comes with them). I went the easy route, an electronic flasher relay.
