I went with a longer filter, thinking, that more paper element will mean better flow, cooler engine, cleaner oil and so on. I might be wrong. ???

I had a Bosch 3323, which is their long filter and had to take it off. It was just too long and I felt the fender extender might hit it. I am now using the 3300 which is still longer than the stock Yamaha filter.
I like bosh because it is a well made filter and the price is at 6.99, and I can get them almost anywhere.

Mobil 1 M1-108 is another good one to use if you can't find the OEM. Same length as stock.

Typically I like to use OEM but if cost or availability is an issue, I wouldn't hesitate to use a HIFLO filter.

I've had several factory reps tell me HiFlo builds both the KTM OEM and most of the K&N at their factory(s). I know we've yet to see an issue with them in our shop. HF204 is the Super Tenere part number, and list is $7.45US FYI...

Most of these car filters come in two lengths - if you have a skid plate, you probably want the shorter (that matches the length of the OEM Yamaha filter) to have clearance.

That print was a little small but I didn't see the Super Tenere listed anywhere? Are my eyes getting too old and feeble?

Don't forget to note...

The overall length of the oil filter is very, very important if you run any of the available skid plates. Even more important to that point is that many filters are nowhere near the length shown on the CalSci. list. If you have a skid plate mounted on your bike and you plan to run *ANY* filter other than the Yamaha OEM recommended filter then you best carefully measure that other brand filter to make sure you'll have clearance.

There are some actual *measured* oil filter lengths here: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=1326.0

Just FYI...

I see no one else uses the Wix filters :-[. If anyone else buys direct from Amsoil, they have these in stock.

Wix 51358

These are OEM length.
