On our ride up from Panama, to both US coasts & back last year, we averaged 44 mpg on all the various types of fuel available, were two-up & fully loaded. After wearing out a Transalp before the S10, my driving model has not changed. We find that doubling the motor size and increasing our load capacity, (and bragging rights) we're right where we want to be. We've never gone without the side bags, tank bag, 1 gal extra fuel, rain gear, tire repair kit & pump. Here in the Tropics, it's a long push to find help. I have never been out of "T", but we're never last either, ya know?
I still ride nearly every day, but 'till we get the "butter rims & loose spokes" issue back on track, I wont take her on the open road.
We've discovered a increase in mileage since our return, (no more two-up or heavy load) but I think it could be due to the fuel formula used in Panama.
Cheers, Motopan
