Pretty much in agreement, especially about pricing (more so with today's interest rates), but we're living in a market now where folks are paying $70K+ for a gottdam pickup truck without batting an eye.
LOL…………. Agree……. On that note, was riding & camping with with a buddy last weekend. He told me that one of his guys out in the oil business just bought $105K PU truck @ 12% for 7-8yr……. This world has gone nuts……. As I shake my head, LOL

More and more common. The last time I checked, the best interest rate was 6.5%. So, if a person doesn't have great credit, they're screwed. My kid knows a guy . . . . bought a F-150. $985 for 84 months. An $84,000 F-150. o_O

You have got to respect BMW. Their units continue to update and revise. Like the radar Cruz and blind spot. 145 hp is nice as well. Yamaha seems to design a bike, tweak it once or twice (nothing major) and let it run its course.

They say successful people are willing to do what others will not. For all the Denigration, on our part they are top of heap And their place in the market seems secure for now.

So NOT buying the GS puts me in doing the opposite of what others are not doing...am I successful?

Others such as Triumph have had the blind spot radar for a couple of years and their 1200 is 149 hp.
Still glad I went simpler, lighter, and slightly smaller.

Just an early review I picked up, filmed in Romania ............
(watch out for bears)

It's the 719 option, for those interested in running it through their local configurator, the most expensive option currently.

Personally, I've never been a huge GS fanboy. I ran an 800 twin for a while, but never gelled with the 1200/1250s; just too big, ugly & over-complicated. However, whilst I haven't seen one in the flesh yet, I actually quite like the look of the new 1300. OK, still expensive & over-complex, in true German style, but far more attractive in most other respects.

I understand everybody has different priorities for their bikes. But, automatic transmissions, blind spot alert, radar cruise, drive assist, TFT screens, keyless ignition? Mind as well just take a bus. If someone changes lanes and hits something because they didn't look. If someone doesn't turn of their cruise and runs right up the ass of a stopped or slower moving car. What the F#@*K are they doing? Driving and riding is an audience participation sport. If a person wants to sit on the bench and let their ride to do all the work, stay home.

Yamaha has been at the top of every reliability poll since I can remember. Where's BMW? Yet Yamaha is considered old, behind the times, out of touch, and has even been called boring by some here. But I know that when I put my key in the ignition, she'll start. And when I'm cruising down the road, my shaft isn't going to fail. I like boring and will continue to support boring.

Rant over.

Depends on how you look at it. We have gone the road less traveled, and that could be viewed as doing what others are unwilling to do.

I am just saying BMW ‘s GS seems to have a bright future while our beloved Super Tenere is dying on the vine.

When everyone was riding horses and the first car showed up, they said horses are slow, you have to clean after them, not very comfortable etc and horse riding is a dying thing....centuries later, cars are everywhere and horse riding is considered as a prestige done by few.. so we will see down the road how it goes

I have to say I do like the looks of the 1300. O.K. not the nose. I have never liked beaks and strange head lights on any bike. It is so expensive and that is without any luggage included. I am guessing nothing is included on that bike. Looks like pricing would be 25,000 with nothing but the motorcycle. The 1250 I rode got head shake at times. I blamed it on the super soft set up they had but it was not nice when it did that. If this bike has the transmission under the motor the crank and cylinders have to be higher. So the whole motor is higher. I can't see that bike feeling lighter even it it is. If it head shakes too that would be a real hand full. Still I like the looks of the bike. Way too much money for me and way way way too much electronics for me.

I saw pictures of New York city here in the USA in the early 1900's. There were pictures of streets that only had one small lane open in the center with both sides of the road piled with horse poo all the way up the second story windows. There were dead horses piled in there at times that died on the routes and deliveries. What a complete mess that was! Cars actually helped the environment back then. Can you imagine what big cities would be like if horses were still used? That being said my daughter had horses the whole time she was growing up and I really enjoyed fooling with them.

Ive not read anyone mentioning what Im about too.... Im from the opinion that whatever bike you like, buy it, it's your money. Go have fun, who cares..................... But I feel it's a little disingenuous from BMW to "brag" about this new lower weight...... IMOP, kind of a PR joke.....

The long story short is there used to be options on the BMW that were standard. With this came a "base" weight, Etc before options and add ons... With this 2024 model they have stripped many of those options off the bike and made the fuel tank smaller. (trying not to get deep in the weeds)
When comparing this new 'striped' model to some of the others they are SO excited that the new bike is less weight, and one of the lightest now... Hummmmmm.... For comparison, the Multistrada comes loaded. There are no options, comes with virtually everything, there are no 20-30 upgrade "packages" to choose from and pick what options you might want.... So it looks to me that there is a 7 Lbs difference in weight between a fully loaded bike, versus the striped down new BMW......

I think Im really splitting hairs here..... but it's the point.... They are comparing a stripped down motorcycle to the normal factory optioned out bikes.... It's NOT apples to apples...... There will soon be you-tube videos that will show all this.

I find it hilarious that the factory presentation and MANY of the you-tube videos are excited that its lost "so" much weight.... At the end of the day, when the (You-Tube creators) load these bikes equally, with the same factory options I don't think they will have the same out come.

Ive never been a Ford or Chevrolet type of guy. But many/most of these BMW guys are SUPER hard core. BMW could shit on a shingle and they would have a line around the block to buy it. Good for them...

This whole 'weight' conversation could virtually be repeated with the price. They are bragging that the price is just slightly higher, Etc, Etc....
Yea, it's higher with no options, stripped, and has nothing you want. Compare that to all the rest in the market and now the BMW is very expensive. Ive looked at several build sheets for this first Gen (lower end) model. Many of the build sheets have this at $26-$29K loaded up.
Just wait till the GSA 1400 comes out and then the "M" model.... Im going to guess they are going to pull this same BS with the GSA... The new GSA is lighter and cost less............. Yes, cuz you're getting less with the base GSA that NO ONE will ever buy..... When you go in and build the one you really want with the goodies that this first Gen was not offered with, it's going to be $35K+ bucks US.... Im going to say now that the new GSA fully loaded will be almost $40K. Im not a hater, rock out ! I just think many of these manufactures have lost their mind, and these prices are for doctors and attorneys. And once again, the new GSA (loaded with options) will be just as heavy as the current one.... maybe a kilo less..... LOL

For fun.... look down the list here at the prices.... The US exchange is more than these numbers.....Who are buying all these toys for $18K-$30K+.
Holy Cow ! For a motorcycle........

And then on the flip side are companies like Kove, total Chinese 450 ADV bike getting good reviews, Etc... I believe $9K (simple sample video below)

Anyhow, I look forward to the genuine 'honest' apples to apples comparisons that will soon be comparing the new GS equally with all the other brands..... I have a feeling by that time most will glaze over what was talked about in the past and move on to some other "talking point".
Many of these early reviews have been "interesting" for sure !

As far as the markets for expensive motorcycles, cars, and trucks.....it's all about making people feel good about their purchases. If you can convince someone they'll be better off with a purchase, they'll go for it, cost be damned (see BMW GS).

I just can't figure out where the money for all these new purchases is coming from. Everything, and I mean everything, has increased in price. Then throw in the prices of new vehicles, et al, and I just don't get it. I'm thinkin' that people must be up to their ears in debt. Or makin' a lot more money than I ever did.
