Peg it or not?

So, I am looking at upgrading my foot pegs. The three obvious choices are -
Touratech, Pivot Pegz and SW-Motech.

I like the idea of pivoting Pivot Pegz MK3. I want to see how/what people felt once they started using'em. On the pivoting peg; since it let your foot go up & down; has anyone inadvertently shifted gear or pushed the rear break? And do these relieve the pressure points?

Thanks for the feedback.

Nick,

I'm running the Mk3 PivotPegz on my Super T. Love them! I've run the Mk2 up to this point but really like the extra width of the 3.

No pressure points, less ankle fatigue, very comfortable when off road and/or standing.

It took me about a week to get used to the different feel but since then I've never looked back and make these one of the very first things I do to a bike when I get it. No missed shifts and no gear flubs after the acclimation period.

Go for em!!! You won't regret it.

I tried them a couple times and absolutely loathed pivot-pegz. The last thing I want is for one of the primary contact points I have with the bike to be moving. But its strictly personal preference..... some folks love 'em.

While on hate/love things, feel absolutely the same about crampbuster throttle doo-hickeys. Maybe there is a correlation.... if you like crampbusters, you'll like PP?

Helps to have an objective of what you're after when you make mods. Pivoting? Wider? Narrower? Longer? Shorter? Softer for comfort? Sharper to hold on to boots better?

For a bit of history.....

I went to PP after I blew up my ankle at work. During my rehab I just did not have the strength or range of motion in my ankle. I found I had better contact with the peg and, therefore, the bike with them. Also, I found I had a lot less fatigue as my foot remained in contact with the whole peg more often which gave me better, more relaxed control. The grip on these pegs is amazing as well. You have to deliberately pick up your foot to move it.

And I don't like those crampbuster thingy ma jiggers so there went that theory Mark. ::003:: I do like my Kaoko though. ::025::

Went with them on my Vstrom - they really helped with the thick toes on my Sidi boots. Not feeling the need to get them for my S10.

Love my crampbuster ....

And maybe not. I have a crampbuster, but find the OEM S10 pegs a delight. Clever design actually.

As for the crampbuster.........got it free. So I thought why not see what it does?
RARELY use it. Keep it turned around and out of the way most of the time.

But when I "have to get my drone on", I flip it around and switch to the nice light throttle approach it affords me.

That's ALL it is good for. But that is ALL I will use it for.

I went with the SW lowered pegs. Similar in design to the oem, but bigger, and obviously, lower. I wouldn't have replaced the oem except for the math, got an extra half inch of 'room' for standing. They're pretty easy to touch down, though the oem weren't that hard to touch down either.

I was wanting a wider peg for all the standing I do on the bike. Found the stock pegs a little annoying after standing for a while. Based on what I've read and videos I've watched I decided to try the new 60mm wide Pivot Pegz a try. Installed them two weeks ago.

At the moment I am completely unsold on them. The pivoting action does not feel unstable and I've adjusted to that part very quickly. It's different, but I'm not feeling like it's better or worse than no pivoting. It's a wash to me. The wider pegs are marginally better feeling than stock. Based on what I read and watched I expected a huge difference...didn't happen. I am not blown away with them.

I've done a fair amount of comparisons between my new pegs and the OEM pegs on my wife's bike. Repeatedly jumping off one and onto the other. I find the OEM to be slightly less comfortable due to the what feels like the rubber not completely compressing and a little hump under my feet. Other than that I don't feel the better control, less fatigue, luxurious benefit that others experience. To be fair, I'm also the neanderthal that does not feel all the benefits that others experience with more expensive suspension.

I seriously doubt I'll buy another set of Pivot Pegz for the wife's bike. I'll probably get a less costly, wide peg. From there I don't really care if the pivot pegz go on her bike or mine. I don't think they are benefiting me outside of the wider space.

By the way, the Pivot Pegz are waaaay harder to install than you see in the video at Altrider. They are obviously now coming with a much stiffer spring. After 20 minutes of trying to install one side I finally had to get my wife to come out and assist. I just could not do it alone.

D_D, if you were closer i would let you try the SW Motech pegs. The only problem I have with them is they drop a little to far and make my feet pigeon toed. Not much but enough to become uncomfortable after awhile.

I have the SW pegs and really like them.. I sat on a bike with Pivot pegs and did not like them that much. I know it is not like ridding with them, but 1st impressions and all that.
You can try mine if you ever get to Tejas..

I have the Touratech and I'm please with them, the only thing I don't like of them is the system the spring are attached.

Last October shortly after receiving the bike I threw on some Pivot Pegz..... Being on motorcycles for 30+ years I DID NOT LIKE the pivoting back and forth when I had them installed on the bike. Just after installing them I road out to Big Bend, TX... While their and riding off road every day, I found myself really liking them and the moment. It took me a bit of time to get use to them, I do like them now. Although pretty rare, I didn't want to be one of those riders that broke a stock peg while riding. I cant imagine being way off road on the Mexican border and breaking a stock peg. Even if I didn't crash or get hurt because of a stock peg failing, that would be a bad place to have a break down... Ive got about 10K miles on the new pegs and still enjoy them...... ::008::
