don't be afraid - remember the force... ::025:: the drawings look flakey but if you follow the heater wire layout as the picture shows it does work. get the blocks in the right place first. dry fit it without the throttle wires so you know how it fits together and don't grease it until the final assembly.
What are these "blocks" of which you speak??

Okay, after yesterday's drama, went out this morning, stared at the thing....and then put it all together it about 5"...... ::025::

No binding. Throttle snaps right back.

As previously noted, I am a dumbass.... ::024::

What I didn't do was grease anything. ::010::

Assuming this is necessary, I'm going to make sure all works as expected, then pull it apart and juice the area up a bit.

Oh, and for anyone preparing to do this (Mark... ::024::), when you get everything ready for re-assembly, set up your throttle cables 1st as others have noted then fiddle with the heater wire. I also found assembling it off the handlebar and then turning the bars all the way to the left (as if you were sitting on the bike) and sliding the assembled throttle tube on is the hot ticket. I think that was my biggest issue yesterday. (BTW, this method will NOT work if you retain the nub for positioning. Obviously others have done it without this method. Just my .02 cents)

Update: Pulled the thing apart and put a small amt of grease in the wire housing (not on the throttle assembly itself, Phil. I agree about the grunge build up). Again, it all went together easily OFF the handle bar. Didn't put the screws in but held it together and rotated the bars to the left (as noted above) and it all (again) popped right on. I DID grind off all nubs which allowed lateral movement of the throttle tube which allowed me to adjust it to the Kaoko. Also did this with all the switch gear which allowed me to position everything where I wanted it. Routing the wires is pretty fiddly but no big thing. There is a nice , unused metal wire loom under the R side of the bars. I ran the wires through this and then out the side. I presumed this is what it's for. If your going to use this, put the controller wire through 1st. The end pieces won't fit through if you already ran the grip wires. ::010::

One other tip that worked well. When you go to remove the L hand grip, peel it back a bit on the inboard side and spritz a bit of WD-40 in there. Wait a bit and it'll peel a little more. Spritz it again. In 10 minutes it slid off as if buttered. The added bonus was the glue retained of the bar came off pretty easily. Obviously be sure and degrease the area thoroughly afterwords.

Everything works as before and I now have heated grips... ::012::

I used no grease. Don't care to have any build up from off road use to cause sticking and binding.

Thanks for all the tips, guys. None of it makes much sense since I've never seen the product, but I'm sure it will shortly.

Phil, I already had the Kaoko on...was just concerned about the new housing and such. At the rate this is going it's kind of down there on my priorities right now... ::025::
Finally got to installing my heated grips today. My Kako didn't fit back up after the install. I put some 120 emery paper on my welding table and used the flat surface to sand down the friction disk that fits in the end of the grip. Had to reduce it by a bit more than half, but it works, no washers and still using factory bolt.

I also inverted the controller bracket as another member did. I like that. Anyone want a Wasp relo bracket?

I am new to the forum and need information about just getting the heated grips. I ordered the grips when I ordered the bike but the bike was delivered w/o the grips installed or even provided. I have asked my dealer several times and so far no results - he thought they would be just shipped when available but now I know they are available I don't know what gives. Did anyone received a bike with the grips installed or has everyone ordered the grips after the fact and now working on installing. Looking for advice. Should my dealer be able to get the heated grip kit?

I ordered mine on 8/25, was told they were backordered. I got them on 10/14.

I got mine about a month after the bike got here. I don't think having them come pre-installed was an option, at least not for this year. They work great. R

As stated, the heated grips never came standard from the factory. They are always installed from a kit - the dealer can do it or the customer can do it. Any dealer should be able to get the kit, but they may be back-ordered.

Hey Dan, I installed mine a few weeks ago and it's was pretty easy. If you need some help give me a shout (I'm just south of Grand Rapids).

Thanks Mat. I have been traveling for work and just picked up the grips today. Hopefully I will get some good garage time in the next couple of days to give this a try. I am in Ludington. The local dealer has a black ST on his floor for sale - a canceled order didn't get processed so he has a bike if you know anyone wanting one who didn't get an order in. Dan

Just got my Heated grips last week and put them on this past weekend and I have to say WOW they get hot. Took me about a half hour to an hour to install. Very easy to and all plug and play. They were well worth the money, I've had Oxford and they never got has hot as the OEM does.
